Salary : $104,268.00 - $126,732.00 AnnuallyLocation : Monterey Park, CAJob Type: Full-timeJob Number: 25-03FTDepartment: FireOpening Date: 03032025Closing Date: 3172025 11:59 PM PacificDEFINITION Under general supervision of a Fire Captain, drives a standard fire truck, aerial truck, and other automotive equipment in responding to fire and emergency calls; assists in suppression of fires; assists in protection of life and property; assists in inspecting and maintaining equipment; participates in fire prevention inspections and planning sessions; assists in the administration or management of department programs; and performs related duties as required. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Responds to fire and other emergency alarms by driving assigned fire apparatus and other automotive equipment; locates emergency vehicle at proper place for efficient operation; operates engine pumping equipment to maintain pressures and operates aerial apparatus as required by the officer in charge; assists in fire suppression activities; protects life and property; administers first aid; operates all mechanical devices and resuscitators, inspects, services, and maintains assigned fire equipment; inspects residential and commercial structures as part of on-going fire company responsibility; ensures compliance with federal, state and local fire prevention laws and regulations, municipal code, city and department policies and procedures; participates and instructs Fire Fighters in cleaning and maintaining fire stations, quarters, grounds and equipment; performs minor maintenance and repairs of fire apparatus and instructs Fire Fighters in these duties; continues participation in training and instruction programs, including individual study of technical material, attendance at drills and classes; assists in training probationary Fire Fighters, Firefighter Reserves, and Fire Explorers when assigned; may assist in the development and implementation of departmental programs; conducts public school specialized educational programs; performs other public relations activities in the interest of firefighting and fire prevention duties as directed by departmental supervisor; may act as company commander. VACATION: 144 hours each year plus additional 24 hours for each year served to a maximum of 312 hours per year. SICK LEAVE: 96 hours per year. CASH OUT OF ACCRUED LEAVE: Employees may elect to cash out up to 8 shifts. MEDICAL INSURANCE: The City contributes $1,445mo toward the medical premium for employee and eligible dependents. $300 cash-in-lieu. DENTAL INSURANCE: The City contributes $95mo toward the dental premium for employee and eligible dependents. VISION INSURANCE: The City contributes up to $20mo toward vision insurance for employee and eligible dependents. LIFE INSURANCE: The City provides a $50,000 life insurance policy. Additional life insurance is available. LONG TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE: The City contributes $12 per month toward the premium for long-term disability insurance for the employee. The current premium is $27.00 per month. RETIREMENT: Employees are covered by the Public Employees' Retirement System. Classic employees CalPERS retirement formula is 3%@55, single highest year. New CalPERS members retirement formula is 2.7%@57, three average years as determined by PEPRA. Classic members pay the full 12% and new members pay 14.25% of the employee contribution. The City does not participate in the Social Security System, except for the mandatory 1.45% Medicare contribution. EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: Regular, full-time employees are eligible for participation in the Employee Assistance Program that provides confidential counseling and consultation services for family, stress, financial and legal issues. CREDIT UNION: F & A Credit Union is available to employees. DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Available to all employees who wish to participate. EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE PAY: 2% of base salary per month for Associate's or 60 units of college credit; 5% of base salary per month for Bachelor's; 6% of base salary per month for Master's.
