Work is performed under the supervision of the AutomotiveTruck Mechanic Supervisor or Motor Pool Superintendent. The AutomotiveTruck Mechanic is responsible for the completion of the work in accordance with standard trade practices. The position requires considerable exercise of judgment and discretion. Work may be reviewed by the Supervisor, in process and upon completion. Essential Job FunctionsA Automotive Truck Mechanic may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform):Troubleshoot and perform general equipment repair on fleet cars, trucks, tractors, sweepers, police cars and other powered and non-powered equipment.Operate a variety of test equipment and machines used in automotive repair plete shop repair order assuring parts, costs and labor hours are posted.Frequently lift, load, unload or carry objects weighing 10 pounds and occasionally lift andor move up to 100 pounds.Work in areas exposed to dust, dirt, pollen, grease, oil and paint.Maintain related records as required.Perform other work as assigned. KSA An AutomotiveTruck Mechanic, upon application, shall have the following training and experience:Graduation from an accredited high school or trade school or completion of equivalent experience and training.A valid State of Michigan driver's licenseCDL group 'a' designation with air brake endorsement preferredA minimum of three (3) years of documented experience as an automotive mechanic.Must possess either a State of Michigan Master Automobile or Master Heavy Duty Truck certificationThe successful candidate must meet the CDL requirement within the first year of employment.Qualifications for Employment:Considerable skill in the use of related power tools and equipment such as tire machines, brake machines, drill press and welding and cutting torches as well as hand tools such as hammers and pliers.Considerable knowledge of standard practices and methods of the automotive mechanical trade.Considerable knowledge of automotive equipment and repair.Thorough knowledge of theory, operation and care of internal combustion engines, both diesel and gasoline.Knowledge of MIOSHA standards for "Automotive Service Operations" and other related standards.Ability to lift andor move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift andor move up to 100 pounds.Ability to follow oral and written directions.Ability to maintain automotive and work records, and to record corrective procedures on repair orders.Ability to operate a motor vehicle.Ability to work in areas exposed to dust, dirt, pollen, grease, oil, and paint.Considerable skill in the use of related power tools and equipment such as tire machines, brake machines, drill press and welding and cutting torches as well as hand tools such as hammers, pliers, wrenches and sockets.Willingness to work with potentially hazardous materials such as grease, oil, paint and gasoline.Application Special InstructionsRequired Application Materials to submit with this application (provide as attachments):ResumeThe City of Royal Oak provides full-time employees with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, prescription, vision, and dental coverage, flexible spending accounts, long and short-term disability, life insurance for employees and dependents, an Employee Assistance Program, access to a health and wellness center, and a robust retirement plan with both employee and employer contributions.
