The Harlem YMCA is seeking a Sports Instructor - soccer who will be responsible for working with childrenteens to promote the enjoyment of soccer activities while improving physical competence, developing confidence, and teaching basic skill development in soccer while also providing outstanding hospitality to ensure a positive user experience. The Sports Instructor will serve as a resource for participants to achieve exercise goals, skill goals, and a sense of well-being. Theoverall major functions of the Sports Instructor also include:Provide a fun, safe, and positive experience for all participants. Demonstrate strong service and hospitality with all constituents including, but not limited to, program participants and parentsguardians.Create an all-inclusive and supportive learning environment.Teach progressive lessons and provide opportunities to demonstrate learned skills.Encourage a lifetime participation in sports and physical activity.Embody the YMCA Core Values. Key Responsibilities:Work with the Supervisor to develop program objectives and goals for each session.Create a written lesson plan for the program session that is age-appropriate and progressive, as needed.Provide supervision of the participants in line with YMCA program standards and guidelines (i.e., ratio, attendance, etc.).Be able to modify lesson plans and instruction to meet the needs of the participants.Emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship.Teach rules and fundamentals and enhance basic municate with parentsguardians regarding the progress of their childteen and registration for the next municate to parentsguardians about additional YMCA opportunities that can benefit them or their childteen.Ensure that all equipment is age-appropriate, safe, and in proper working condition. This includes conducting monthly equipment safety checks.Work with the Supervisor to develop and lead program promotion and recruitment efforts.When applicable, provide direction to volunteers or Sports Assistants who support the program.Have a thorough knowledge of branch emergency procedures and take appropriate actions in emergency situations.Ensure the cleanliness of the program space during all form the Manager on Duty (MOD) regarding any incident reports that need to be filled out.Actively participate in designated meetings, training sessions, and special events.Desired Skills & Experience:High School diploma or equivalent required.Minimum of one (1) year of experience teaching childrenteens sports in a structured setting.Knowledge of youth development stages.Content expert in Soccer activities.Ability to communicate effectively with members of all ages.Current First AidCPR certifications.Must attend the YMCA Coaching 101 Training within ninety (90) days of employment.Must receive the CDC HEADS UP Concussion in Youth Sports certificate within thirty (30) days of employment.Benefits:The YMCA of Greater New York offers a variety of benefits to itsstaff members, including retirement benefits, medical, paid time off, free YMCA membership, and more!
