Founded in 1976, Shelton is dedicated to making a difference by serving and empowering the lives of students who learn differently. While the school is clearly the centerpiece of its mission, Shelton is more than a school. It encompasses three other major components, all open to the communitya speech and language therapy program, an evaluation center, and a teacher-training program. Shelton is actively involved with research and collaborates with major medical institutions in the Dallas area, including Childrens Medical Center and UT Southwestern Medical Center. The Shelton School is a co-educational, non-sectarian school that serves approximately 900 students with learning differences in grades EC to 12. The Shelton School is accredited by Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS).Position OverviewThe Facilities Engineer works directly with the Director of Facilities in implementing and maintaining preventative maintenance on equipment, monitoring of EMS for the optimum operation of HVAC system, responding to work orders for plumbing, lighting, HVAC comfort, minor electrical needs and other requests, as well as maintaining a clean, safe and comfortable working environment.Qualifications & Skills:High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.Must have a minimum of two years of related experience andor trade school training.Demonstrate ability to comprehend instructions.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to multi-task and apply analytical skills.Ability to respond to common inquiries from staff, vendors, co-workers, and supervisor.Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, Word.Position requires communications with co-workers, other school staff and some vendors.Professionalism, customer service and a team environment are a must.Essential Functions:AttendanceAttendance and punctuality are essential to the successful performance of this job. Because of the daily interaction with students and colleagues, it is essential that the person in this position maintains good attendance.General Building Maintenance and OperationsAssist or take responsibility for proper maintenance and operations programsschedules for all equipment, grounds, building and building components. This includes door repair, ceiling tile repair or replacement, general painting, key control rekeying, irrigation and lighting replacement andor maintenance. Read, understand and operate test equipment (thermometers, volt-ohm and map meters). Use a variety of power tools.Monitor work performed by outside vendors and contractors. Contracted work includes landscaping, parking lot repairs, construction, HVAC, plumbers, electricians and cleaning.Perform repairs to plumbing fixtures (water closets, urinals, flush valve assemblies, lavatories, etc.).Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and company directives related to building operations and work safety. Fire & Life SafetyTest and maintain the emergency systems including fire alarms, fire panel, smoke detectors, fire suppression equipment and emergency power supply systems. Respond quickly to emergency situations.Monitor the property for a safe working environment for all occupants and report any safety concerns immediately.MechanicalMonitor, operate, test, adjust and maintain mechanical systems, including house pumps, chillers, cooling towers, fan coil units, VAV and air distribution systems, fans, filters, energy management, controls, valves, belts and other equipment necessary to provide a comfortable environment.Perform preventive maintenance duties in accordance with building protocol, manufacturerrecommendations and industry best practices, including changing filters, cleaning coils, flushing condensers, greasing fans, pump and motor bearings as required, inspecting and adjusting belts,replacing motor bearings, aligning pulleys and shafts, monitor condenser, chilled, heating and secondary water chemical treatment and its associated feed equipment, clean and maintain cooling towers, and perform annual inspections and other scheduled routines as directed. Maintain proper records.ElectricalTroubleshoot and solve various electrical issues. Repair or replace lights, ballast, plugs and switches.Management and CommunicationFacilities Engineer reports directly to the Director of Facilities. Build and maintain effective communication and relationships with tenants, associates and vendors. Communication needs to be proactive and persuasive as well as responsive and service oriented.On-CallSome after-hours technical and physical support at the facility is required for trouble call outs andspecial events.
