The Histotechnician will adhere to and support our culture of compliance and safety by following all SOPs with attention to detail, accuracy, and professionalism at all times.NYS pathology lab and Mohs clinic providers and staff positions are mandated W-2 employment status positions as required by applicable laws and regulations.Schedule: Full Time, 30+ hours. Monday to Friday: 8am to 4:30pm OR 12pm to 8:30pm.Essential Functions: Daily essential functions of the Histotechnician are listed below. Details on how each function is to be performed is outlined in the SOP manual. The SOP manual is to be reviewed by all Histotechnicians upon hire, when any updates occur and annually.Embed skin specimens such as shaves, punches, nails and excisions Perform microtomy on histology blocksStain and coverslip hematoxylin and eosin slidesPerform special stain techniques such as, but not limited to, PAS, AFB and Gram stainPerform immunohistochemistry stains on the Bond Max and the Ventana UltraCut control slides for IHC and special stainsAssist with slide distribution if needed.File paraffin blocks and HE slides in accordance with proceduresOperate and maintain tissue processorsTrouble-shoot lab equipment and ensure proper routine maintenanceEnsure quality control procedures are followed and appropriate documentations are maintainedMonitor inventory and assure proper reagent documentation techniquesBiohazard and hazardous waste disposal in accordance with policy and regulationsMaintain a safe, clean work environmentObserve blood-borne pathogens policy and proper personal protective equipmentAdhere to all company and laboratory specific SOPs and complete quality control (QC) logs as required on a daily, weekly, monthly or annual basis (per individual SOPs)Qualifications: Histotechnician II: Histotechnician, Clinical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technologist license is required. Histotechnician II: Certification: Certification is not required for this position however ASCP HT or HTL Certification is preferred. High School DiplomaGED minimum required; Associate degree preferred.Special training of at least 30 days to six months in histology techniques required to achieve familiarity with handling specimens and staining. Formal ASCP-type accredited training is preferred as a quality standard.Prior work experience of six months is desired in order to gain familiarity on-the-job with histology techniques.Experience in large-scale organization or high-volume production environment preferred to gain seasoned familiarity with processing specimens in production environment. Should be familiar with most major techniques for staining and special staining.
