Job DescriptionDepartment: Preparatory Division (Music Advancement Program & Pre-College) Reports To: Director of Professional Apprentice Program, Dean and Director of Preparatory Division, Pre-College Director of Performance Activities, Pre-College Director of Admissions and Academic Affairs Exempt or Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt Description: This is a full-time position. The apprentice assists with various aspects of the day-to-day operations of the Pre-College Program. The apprentice has exposure to key elements of performance and academic activities, including ensemble management, admissions, juries, and concert production, and provides general office support. This position works with students ages 8-18. Duties in the Music Advancement Program may be assigned as needed. The salary is $17.39 per hour or a contracted amount of $27,824 for the school year. About the Professional Apprentice Program:This program provides immersive training for emerging performing arts technicians and administrators, addressing the need for practical training in the field. For over four decades, it has prepared recent graduates, early-career professionals, and individuals undergoing career transitions for employment in the cultural sector. Role Responsibilities: Performance Activities Ensemble Management: Work with staff, conductors, musicians, and work-study teams to support rehearsals and performances. Duties may include creation of set-up memos, announcing rehearsal start and end times, recording attendance, and supporting librarians, and approving orchestra mentor timecards, as well as various communications related to marketing and production of ensemble performances Placement Auditions: Work with staff and conductors to organize and execute ensemble placement auditions. Duties may include compiling and communicating repertoire, scheduling audition times and staff support, and distributing audition recordings to panelists Course Content and Grading: Under the direction of conductors and Pre-College staff, maintain course content for ensemble classes on Canvas learning management system and track issues or infractions affecting a student's ensemble grade Admissions, Academic Affairs, and General Office Support Assist in the planning and execution of auditions, admissions, and juries, including hiring pianists and responding to admissions inquiries. Track student absences and communicate attendance issues to students, parents, faculty, and administrators. Assist in the hiring and managing of college student work-studies. Maintain digital student records, update information on MyJuilliard, and manage digital media content. Provide general office support, including coordinating office supply needs, submitting copy requests, and completing visitor registration. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's Degree, or related professional experience and transferable skills, or a combination of both. Background in music performance, education, or artistic administration. Knowledge of orchestral repertoire. Ability to work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule. Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Preferred Background: Administrative and ensemble management experience.
