Part Time School Counselor

Derby Academy is a Pre-K-8 school in Hingham Massachusetts. Rooted in the school's motto, " Improve Both Mind and Heart ," Derby provides students with a joyful and rigorous academic environment while infusing values and character development into all we do. Derby Academy seeks a compassionate and collaborative School Counselor. This part-time position will support the social and emotional needs of students and families through middle-school grade levels while working collaboratively with teachers and staff. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Providing short-term individual and group counseling with respect and compassion for each individual studentImplementing Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons in classroomsEmpowering students to self-advocate and build skills to problem solve confidently Helping students develop age appropriate social skills and identify and regulate emotionsOrganizing and leading affinity groups and lunch bunchesCreating a community of belongingThe Derby Academy Part-Time School Counselor will also:Make recommendations for outside provided as neededCollaborate with teachers to develop positive behavior plans and recommend class accommodationsBe a member of the Crisis Team for crisis and safety Participate in conversations rooted in the best interest of students at grade level meetings and students discussion conversations Display a commitment to on-going professional development RequirementsQualifications: Degree in school counseling, psychology, social work or related field requiredCommitment to confidentiality2+ years Experience working with children as a counselor or therapistExperience working in a school settingStrong communication skills (written, verbal and listening)Excels at working as a team with faculty, staff and families Derby Academy is committed to building a diverse, equitable and inclusive educational community and does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, religion, gender, color, veteran status, physical ability, sexual orientation, national or ethnic origin or any other state or federally protected classifications.
