Serves as a resource person, guides, counsels and instruct professional and ancillary nursing personnel.Reports to:Inpatient Adult, Detox, CAPIS -This position reports to the Director of Nursing CPEP- This position reports to the Deputy Chief Nursing Officer, Behavioral HealthOutpatient Services - This position reports to the Deputy Chief Nursing Officer, Behavioral HealthAREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIESParticipates in formulating, implementing, and evaluating hospital, departmental and program philosophy, objectives, standards, policies and collaboration with the Head Nurse, plans, organizes, directs monitor and evaluates the nursing care within the Behavioral Health.Participates with the Head Nurse in assessing an evaluating nursing practice with the assigned clinical service, utilizing knowledge of growth and development theories about human behavior, psychopathology and principles of psychiatric nursing.Collaborates with the Unit Chief, Associate Director of Inpatient Service and other discipline heads in the determination, implementation and evaluation of conditions and resources for the psychiatric inpatient division andor assigned unit.Aids the Head Nurse to maintain optimum unit functioning through review of program schedules. Facilitates inter and intershift communication, institutes joint practice forums between physician and nursing staff and referring non-nursing issues to the Administrator for resolution.Coordinates the preparation and submission of and reviews monthly staffing plans and schedules to ensure equitable distribution of staff to meet staffing standards.Facilitates and participate in the implementation of continuous quality improvement activities and in assessing effectiveness of corrective action and determining measurable vestigates and follows through with occurrences and incidents and completes reports a required. Provides notification to appropriate administrator administrators in accordance with policy and procedure. Providesfacilitates debriefing for staffpatients following an incident. Determines realistic and evidence based corrective action plans and monitors for improvement.Assesses nursing personnel to determine clinical and administrative competence and assists in development through appropriate learning experiences.Provides on-site supervision of patient care provided by nursing staff to high-risk patients such as, but not limited to those in restraint, on constant observation or medically unstable patients.Provides on-site intervention and supervision of patient care provided by nursing staff in emergency situations.Reviews medical record documentation of high-risk patients as completed by licensed nursing personnel.Conducts annual performance review and competency assessment of staff under hisher supervision timely.As role model performs tasks, i.e. runs community meeting, treatment planning conferences, patientfamily education, chairs discharge planning groups to enhance clinical programming on the unit.Maintains opens communication with support service and other departments, as itiates and attends disciplinary action proceedings timely and in accordance with accurate assessment of competency of staff.Acts as a role model and mentor to the staff. Engages and integrates various nursing disciplines in patient centered model of nursing care delivery.Submits monthly performance reports to include plans, progress, accomplishments and problems.Review time and attendance records monthly and initiates disciplinary action as required. Accurately determines need for overtime and reviews time management skills of terviews and selects new staff.Demonstrates commitment to continues professional development through participating in committee work, staff development and attendance in continuing education programs related to Behavioral Health, Nursing Administration and membership in professional organization.Attends yearly mandatory classes and meets required life and safety standards.Adheres to customer service standards. Reviews customer service unit-based results and provide appropriate corrective actions.Cognizant of language and interpretation services. Licensed and currently registered to practice as a professional nurse in New York State, plus (2) or (3), below.2. Masters Degree in Nursing Administration, Education, Clinical Specialty or equivalent field and five years of satisfactory nursing experience, of which three years shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity; or a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and six years of satisfactory nursing experience, four years of which shall have been in a supervisory or teaching capacity.3. A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.
