Pratt Paper (NY), LLCJob Title: Safety Manager Division: Mill Location: Staten Island, NYReports To: General ManagerHours: Full TimeSalary Range: $85-90k plus incentivesFLSA Status: ExemptThe Mill Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing and implementing safety policies, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, conducting risk assessments, investigating incidents, providing safety training, and promoting a culture of safety to minimize workplace accidents and injuries across all departments.Job DescriptionResponsibilities OSHA record keeping & compliance.Conduct new employee orientationSet up monthly employee on line training in compliance with OSHA training.Manage employee monthly safety training.Coordinate yearly audiometric testing.Manage safety shoes program - schedule purchase & record keeping.Maintaining PPE inventory & monitoring PPE vending machine.Respond to and manage employee injuriesReport and manage compensation casesManage Uniform ProgramCoordinate elevator maintenance & yearly InspectionManage access control system employees IDMonitor onsite camera system & schedule maintenance and repair as neededManage radio system - purchase, repairs & inventory.Responsible for Confined Space air quality units - calibration , purchase & repairsEstablish and Lead Safety CommitteeFill in for Environmental Manager in his absenceResponsible for Testing, inspection & maintenance of Fire Pumps.Responsible for Machine & Building sprinkler systems.Maintain & inspect dried sprinkler systems during the winter.Coordinate and escort inspector technician during Johnson Controls sprinklers testing & Inspection.Maintain and inspect pad & pit fire cannonsMonitor and coordinate service for fire alarm monitoring system when neededRespond to fire alarms eventsEstablish good working relationship with FDNYConduct FDNY Tours as requested.Schedule inspection and recordkeeping for Facility Fire water Curb Boxes as per FM Global insurance companySchedule and coordinate FM Global Insurance Yearly (fire & equipment)InspectionManage facility safety & securityOther responsibilities as assignedJob RequirementsEDUCATION andor EXPERIENCE:Prefer someone with Paper Mill experiencePrefer someone with two years of experience in the safety fieldPost-secondary educational degree (2 to 4 year degree from college, university, technical school, military, vocational or other advanced educational institution)Candidates are preferred who offer the following: BS degree in Safety related field Previous safety experience within the pulp and paper industryLANGUAGE SKILLS:Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, manuals, regulations, and codes Ability to write business reports and correspondenceAbility to communicate effectively with suppliers, contractors, employees and outside officials to the companyMATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, volume, and net present value. Able to apply concepts of algebra and geometry along with basic math (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing)REASONING ABILITY:Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formTECHNICAL SKILLS:Ability to gather information and perform root cause analysis and problem solving Ability to create reports for review by upper management Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and ExcelCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:OSHA CertificationPHYSICAL DEMANDS:Employee is regularly required to walk, talk, and hear Employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, feel; and reach with hands and arms The employee is occasionally required to sit The employee must regularly lift andor move up to 50 pounds Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focusWORK ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the functions of this job.
