Job DescriptionResponsible for the utilization of invasive cardio vascular procedures as necessary and performs under the direct supervision of cardiologists and radiologists.Principal Accountabilities:1. Demonstrates understanding of Cardiac, Vascular, Respiratory, and Renal, physiology and pathology.2. Demonstrates thorough understanding of ECG and related medical terminology.3. Recognizes ECG waveform morphology, wave patterns and their significance, including lethal arrhythmias.4. Recognizes and interprets ECG changes occurring in heart chamber enlargement and myocardial infarctions and is able to respond appropriately. (ACLS)5. Lists and describes the most common cardiac pathologies, including symptoms and treatments.6. Demonstrates an understanding of all of the Cardiac medications (Generic & Trade names) and the pharmacokinetics actions related to cardiac and vascular functions and properly documents the medications including indications for administration and dosages.7. Recognizes and alerts physicians to abnormalities with clinical laboratory values for Arterial Blood Gases, electrolytes, hemoglobin, BUN and creatinine.8. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiopulmonary resuscitation and is able to perform all components for a RCIS Tech. for a patient undergoing a full cardiac arrest.9. Monitors a diagnostic cardiac catheter procedure and intervenes appropriately during and after a lethal arrhythmia using ACLS standards if warranted 10. Identifies cardiac pressure waveforms and informs Interventional Cardiologist when applicable11. Calculates basic hemodynamic parameters using the recording computer.12. Records catheterization events in the database computer.13. Understands the necessary supplies required, can provide them and set up a table to perform a diagnostic cardiac catheterization.14. Describes the fundamental steps in a diagnostic heart catheterization and monitors a patient safely during the procedure.15. Performs cardiac outputs, O2 saturations and ACT (Activated Clotting Time) measurements.16. Monitors a percutaneous intervention and can differentiate between a PTCA, directional and mechanical rotation atherectomy. Full understanding of all extraction devices such as angiojet, rotoblator and laser revascularization devices.17. Ability to explain the indication and potential complications of thrombolytic therapy for Acute MI.18. Identifies the benefits of supplementing angiographic imaging with intravascular ultrasound and Doppler velocimetry technologies.19. Describes the indications for electrophysiologic testing, permanent pacemaker implant, and therapeutic ablation of dysrhythmias and implantable cardioverter defibrillators20. Other relevant duties as assignedQualifications1.High School diploma or GED equivalent. LEAD - Specific Certification related to position or Associates DegreeTechnical Degree in related field. All licenses and certifications needed to fulfill the duties required of a Technician at the state (s) andor national level. Top expert and functional mentor; possesses the most advanced knowledge of the functionfamily and department. Makes decisions regarding daily priorities for a work group; provides guidance to andor assists staff on non-routine or escalated issues. Collaborates with Management in the development and validation of methods, techniques, and analytical approach. Serves as a modelmentor for team Members on technical skills.2 Registered Cardiovascular Interventional Technologist. Must be from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program.
