The Navigator is also responsible for coordinating with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to eliminate barriers that might keep a patient from receiving needed care. This patient serves Indian Health Board patients as well as target populations.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSServe as a Certified MNSure Navigator and assists patients with insurance enrollment.Provide ongoing in-person and phone contact with patients as appropriate.Provide coordination and linkage to general medical services.Effectively triage walk-in and phone-in patients by providing guidance and direction to inquiries.Provide a linkage between registration and billing staff to assist uninsured patients in obtaining health insurance.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, medical staff and the public.Coordinate, review and maintain information for patient follow up and reporting terface with and refer patients to other supportive services as appropriate.Assist with and participate in community outreach efforts.Know, understand and adhere to organizational policy related to the patient's rights for confidential care. Seek to understand and meet the needs of the patient through respectful, courteous and caring interactions with patients, families and other health professionals.Performs other work as required by supervisor.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESManages time effectively and prioritizes task completion to meet deadlinesStrong knowledge of pertinent governmental regulations Ability to work positively, flexibly and cooperatively in a team effort to accomplish the goals of the Indian Health Board of Minneapolis.Excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of and respect for American Indian cultures and other cultures served by IHB. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel.Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.Self-motivated with effective critical thinking skills.Spanish-speaking individuals are encouraged to apply.QUALIFICATIONSCertification as MNSure Navigator.At least one year of experience assisting patients with insurance enrollment or 2 years of experience in customer service.Familiarity with community resources in Minneapolis, particularly those designed for the American Indian munity Health Worker Certification preferred.HIPAAIHB makes reasonable efforts to limit access to and use of protected health information (PHI) by employees to the minimum necessary performance of assigned duties as outlines in job descriptions. This position is access restricted to PHI needed to carry out health care operations. PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. There may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items and driving an automobile.
