Salary: $23.50 HourlyLocation : Rosemount, MNJob Type: Part TimeJob Number: 2025-006Department: PoliceOpening Date: 02202025 Position SummaryThis position will remain open until filled; applications will be reviewed upon receipt.The Community Service Officer position will work approximately 20-29 hours per week depending on candidate availability. This is a temporary position that is not to exceed three years and is intended to provide experience for candidates interested in becoming a Police Officer.The Community Service Officer is a non-sworn, entry level position in the Police Department performing public safety related tasks which include animal control, code enforcement, crime prevention, parking enforcement, and miscellaneous public service calls. This position is part-time and will involve shift work, including nights, weekends and holiday and is under direct supervision of a Police Sergeant. Typical duties may vary from routine, non-sworn police work to miscellaneous police related duties. Essential Duties Enforce applicable ordinances and statutes pertaining to animals; perform various animal control vestigate and enforce City ordinance violations and issue citations as allowed by ordinance. Perform motorist assists including vehicle plete reports as required.Conduct speed and traffic surveys.Assist with public relations events and presentations.Assist patrol officers with various duties as directed.Assist in servicing and maintaining police vehicles and equipment.Assist in recovery and inventory of lost, abandoned, and confiscated property.Assist with reception-type duties including answering the telephone and handling customer service requests at the front counter.Perform other duties as assignments are directed. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Working knowledge of English (spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary) so as to write legible and comprehensible reports.Ability to learn applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations.Ability to operate police car, police radio, first aid equipment, animal restraint tools, telephone, computer, and various software applications.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, officers, and other department employees.Maintain a positive image to the public.Act in a courteous, professional manner with colleagues and members of the public.Exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.Minimum QualificationsValid Driver's LicenseHigh School Diploma, GED equivalent or will obtain within 12 months of hire.18 years of age or terest in law enforcement; presently enrolled or prepared to enroll within 12 months in a P.O.S.T. accredited law enforcement programs.
