Job DetailsJob LocationFESCO Banyan - Hayward, CAPosition TypePer DiemSalary Range$25.00 - $25.62 HourlyJob ShiftAnyDescriptionPOSITION OVERVIEW:The Relief Cook is an employee hired on an as needed basis to provide coverage when regular full-time or part-time Cook is not working their regularly scheduled shift due to vacation, illness, paid holiday(s) or any other requested or required absence. A Relief Cook can work 0-37.50 hours a week depending on the needs of the program. In this flexible position, they are not regularly scheduled to work, have no set shifts, and staff will be called to cover shifts that are day shifts M-Sun. The Relief Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious family style meals for up to 30 adults and children residing at FESCO's emergency and transitional housing programs located in Hayward. Duties will include assisting with menu planning, food preparation, cooking of meals, adherence to food safe regulations, and regular cleaning of the kitchen equipment and area. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: Relief Staff must be able to work a flexible work schedule Must be available for a last minute call to cover a shift (M-Fri 10-6 or SatSun 8-2)Work hours vary week to week, depending when full-time regular staff call out for their shift.Prepare and serve breakfast and dinner as scheduled at the Banyan central kitchenGrocery ShopDeliver meals ready for family style service and suitable for children's age and development to the FESCO emergency shelter siteSet up dining room and food preparation areaMaintain kitchen area as specified on shift checklistMaintain a safe and sanitary kitchen. Responsible for kitchen clean up and dish washing. Direct staff, volunteers and residents regarding food service Maintaincreate a warm and welcoming environmentAdministrative Duties: Keeps records required by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).Assists with menu planning, ordering, and shopping as assignedTake inventory of new ordersdonations as they come in, and put items awayCheck off meals in the roster and ensure that residents sign up for meals and save plates.OtherAttend trainings and participate in events relevant to key responsibilitiesTrack and regularly report on key metrics for responsible function areasLeads and collaborate on special projects related to agency objectives as appropriate QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:Current Food Handlers CertificationBilingual in Spanish preferredMust be able to work flexible work hoursMust be able to work a shift at least 1-3 times per monthCPR and First Aid certification (can be provided by La Familia)Ability to use the equipment necessary to complete the responsibilities of the job.Ability to prepare breakfast and dinner entrees (saut, baking, frying, grilling) for 10-30 peopleAbility to improvise and be creativeAbility to have meals ready at scheduled timesAbility to follow food recipesExperience in prepcooking in a food services setting, culinary training preferred Experience working in supportive housing or similar environment would be an asset Basic knowledge of food hygiene and safe kitchen practices including the use of commercial equipment and toolsAbility to work independently, with minimum supervision and as a member of a teamAbility to maintain confidentiality and integrity of program participantsMaintain Professional boundariesNon-Profit and Community Based Organization experience highly desirable.BENEFITS:Accrue one (1) hour of sick for every 30 hours workedWork-life wellbeing SupportiveCollaborative work environment Opportunities for Growth and Professional DevelopmentDemonstrates and models excellent "customer service" orientation, especially in the ability to interact with people at all levels within and outside the agency.Thinks independently and can make informed decisions when needed.
