Job Title:Chief Nursing OfficerDepartment:Clinical AdministrationReports To:Chief Executive OfficerFLSA Status:ExemptDate:01242025PositionSummaryThe Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for the direction of nursing and other services as assigned. As a member of the Everiz Management LLC senior team, this position carries ultimate authority and responsibility for planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating nursingpatient care programs, performance improvement activities, infection control initiatives and hospital-wide planning and regulatory compliance activities.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesDirects nursing services in all areasdepartments where nursing care is provided.Participates with members of governing board, medical staff, administrative team and hospital management in Strategic Planning.Established philosophy and developsimplements the organization's plans for providing nursing care to those patients requiring nursing care.Assures collaboration among the clinical and support departments to meet patient care needs; establishes formal mechanisms for interdepartmental communication.Participates in community-based groupsactivities as a representative of hospital administration; participates with community and nursing leaders in decision-making and support of innovative nursing practice.Keeps abreast of relevant issues that impact patient care and communicates to members of the administrative team.Provides a liaison between the medical staff and clinical departments; promotes environment of collaboration with medical staff and hospital clinical departments to provide for the needs of patients.Serves as a member on medical staff committees.Participates with other administrative team members in promoting physician and employee satisfaction; initiates corrective actions as needed.Takes administrative call. Participates in assuming administrative responsibilities of facility in absence of CEO.Provides leadership to nursing and clinical departments to ensure compliance with licensing, regulatory and accrediting agencies.Assures that the practice of nursing is consistent with the State of Texas, Nurse Practice Act and in accordance with governmental regulatory agencies.Developsapproves organization-wide patient care programs, policies and procedures that describe how patient's nursing care needs or patient populations receiving nursing care are assessed, evaluated and met; involves pertinent individualsdepartments; obtains medical staff inputapprovals as needed; assures that policies reflect the institution's policies; medical staff bylaws and governing board decisions.Assures that assigned departments are in compliance with hospital policies including, but not limited to:Infection Control Standards for Standard and Special Precautions, Employee Health Standards and others as they apply to assigned departmentsSafety and Disaster Preparedness StandardsImprovement PerformanceCollaborates with the governing body, management, medical staff and clinical staff in planning, promoting and conducting hospital-wide performance assessment and improvement; reports findings to appropriate hospital, medical and governing board committees; establishes the nursing plan for performance improvement.Seeks opportunities to incorporate the ethical dimensions of nursing practice, health policy and organizational behavior in the strategic planning and decision-making processes; acts as an advocate for the patients, nursingclinical staff, of medical staff as appropriate with faced with ethical questions and assists with mechanism to assure resolution.Assures that patient care needs in assigned departments are assessed, evaluated and met; utilizes quality reporting, patient satisfaction data and feedback from medical staff to assess areas for improvement.Promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in assessing and planning for patient care needs. Communicating progress toward goals and providing for patient's continuing care needs.Collaborates with medical staff, RiskQuality Dept. and other clinical departments to establish appropriate utilization of hospital resources to meet patient care needs.Problem-solves with medical staff and appropriate departments when quality of care issues arise.Establishes standards and expectations for patient satisfaction; communicates results of PSMS reports; initiates action plan for improvements as needed.Collaborates with leadership to ensure hospital compliance with corporate and regulatory standards.Responsible for the development and implementation of budgets for assigned unitsdepartments.Participates with Administrative Team in determination of allocation of funds for patient care needs.Evaluates compliance, identifies variance trends and initiates corrective action as needed.Participates in evaluation of cost-effectiveness of assigned patient care servicesdepartments and economic value-added proposed new services.Collaborates with Materials Manager to assure quality patient care supplies and equipment are utilized within Hospital contract guidelines; communicates unsatisfactory vendor performance and seeks corrective actions.Establishes the functions and qualifications for nursing positions.Develops staffing plans which assure cost-effective utilization of resources to meet patient care needs based on clinical assessment, utilizing date from performance improvement activities, patient satisfaction information, financial data, staff input and physician input.Monitors and recommends changes in salary ranges to remain competitive in the community; defines which positions are needed in assigned patient care departmentsareas.Supports innovation in nursing practice both from clinical and managerial perspectives.Assures staff competency as reported to the governing board; reviews and approves all competency-based job descriptions on an annual basis.Participates in developing, implementing and evaluating programs to promote the recruitment, retention, development and continuing education of nursing staff members and other disciplines that impacts patient care.Serves as coach and mentor for nursing leadership staff, facilitates professional developments; fosters atmosphere of learning and innovations; develops nursing management skills.Demonstrate knowledge of and adhere to regulations and policies and procedures pertaining to safety, emergency preparedness, infection control, OSHA, fire safety and hazardous materialsParticipate in performance improvement activities as necessaryMaintain confidentiality of patient related issues and adhering to all HIPAA rules and regulations.Demonstrate effective interpersonal skillsTreat all patients, visitors, and staff members fairly and with respectUtilize effective communication methods and skillsExplain all procedures, treatments, and care while remaining aware of language barriersAble to perform care in non-judgmental manner and recognize discrepancies between patient and personal beliefsEnsure personal appearance is business casual and professional at all timesResponsible for wearing identification badge at all times which must be visible and above the waistlineAttend all required meetings and in-service educationRemain flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts; participates in temporary assignmentsCompliance with attendance standardsDemonstrate flexibility when changes in assignments are necessaryQualificationsEDUCATION & EXPERIENCEMaster's degree in business, nursing or related field required; education and experience comparable to leadership peers; certification in nursing administration desirable.Current RN licensure in the State of Texas, requiredAt least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in nursing health care management; preferable 2 years at the executive leadership level.CERTIFICATELICENSESBLS, ACLS
