Description Position at The Port Authority of NY & NJ About the RoleJoin one of the most diverse and innovative engineering design teams with multiple specialties within the transportation sector. The Port Authority's airports, ports, ferries, tunnels, bridges, bus terminals and rail transportation systems are important transportation links in the region. The Civil & Environmental Engineering unit within the EngineeringArchitecture Design Division serves a unique role within the Port Authority by providing engineering planning and design services throughout the Agency with close coordination with external stakeholders including Federal, State and local transportation and regulatory agencies.The Senior Civil Engineer will be responsible for providing Engineering design services for complex projects. Technical areas include one or more of the following civil subsets: highwayroadway design, site design, hydraulic modeling, stormwater management, utilities, airside design, passenger rail or freight rail design. The Senior Civil Engineer will prepare reports, design documents and drawings in AutoCAD. The Senior Civil Engineer will serve as technical lead on assigned projects. The successful candidate will apply working knowledge of AASHTO, NJDEPNYDEC stormwater, AREMA, FAA andor similar standards or guidelines.ResponsibilitiesProduce quality design services conforming to applicable design standards, guidelines and codes.Prepare contract documents consisting of drawings, technical specifications and construction cost estimates. Produce biddable and constructible contract drawings meeting the scope.Prepare the civil engineering scope of work and budget for projects or studies.Provide guidance and direction to junior staff in engineering design approach and civil infrastructure.Perform site inspections at the Agency's facilities.Prepare RFP scope of work and independent staff cost estimate for professional engineering services to be performed by a Consultant. Audit consultant engineering studies, designs and contract documents for construction projects.Minimum QualificationsLicensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of New York or State of New Jersey.Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering college or university. Minimum of eight (8) years of professional engineering experience in design for civil infrastructure. including any of the following: airfields, stormwater and sanitary sewer collection systems, water distribution systems, roadway design, pavements, or trackworkWorking knowledge in Civil 3D software application Desired QualificationsWorking knowledge of guidelines and standards such, but not limited to, FAA circulars, AASHTO or AREMADemonstrated experience in problem solving, decision making, negotiations and conflict resolution skills to effectively reach sound conclusions and recommendations.Proven ability to lead, manage, and prioritize multiple assignments with multiple disciplines.Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work independently and prioritize as required.Proficiency in preparing contract documents; drawings and technical specifications.Excellent presentation and written communication skills.Proficient in the use of software applications Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.Selection ProcessThe application process varies by position, but typically includes an initial phone interview for qualified candidates, followed by a more in-depth interview(s) andor assessment(s).
