Reporting to the Chief Business Development Officer, the Senior Business Development Manager plays a critical role in providing strategic direction and managing the tactical delivery of business development initiatives for two of the firm's key industry verticals-Energy & Climate and Cannabis-the New York office, and the Administrative Law department. This highly visible team member will work closely with senior partners to develop and support business development initiatives as well as collaborate with colleagues across the Business Development Department to provide a coordinated approach and strategy to developing opportunities for the supporting strategic industry verticals Energy & Climate and Cannabis, this is an exciting opportunity to be embedded into tight-knit cross-departmental groups that feature attorneys from virtually all departments across the firm. For more information, visit include but are not limited to: Develop and implement marketing & business development plans for supported department, practice area and industry groups. By leveraging related business plans, develop formal marketing and business development initiatives aimed at realizing plan goals. As appropriate, assist attorneys with development of individual business plans that build their brand while supporting the practice and department plans.Act as a strategic advisor to supported department, practice area, and industry group leaders and individual attorneys in connection with all business development activities including identifying business development opportunities with new and existing clients and identifying opportunities for cross-selling.Work with Energy & Climate group co-chairs and other attorneys to support a full-service practice assisting the energy transition. Possess a robust understanding of all industry practice areas, including developing subsectors, which include but are not limited to: solar, energy storage, wind, hydrogen, geothermal, nuclear, and others. Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and market developments to identify potential business development opportunities.Work with Cannabis practice co-chairs and support full-service practice focused on the growing cannabis industry nationally. Possess a robust understanding of appropriate industry updates to identify potential business development opportunities, including but not limited to: local, state, and federal updates to cannabis regulations; industry trends and financing opportunities; and industry conferences and trade groups.Implement local (NY) business development & marketing efforts, including initiativesprograms that stem from the firm's practice groups, industry teams, and firmwide marketing and business development efforts.Provide continuous assessment of existing business development plans and tracking ROI of initiatives to ensure funding and time investments are appropriately allocated.With guidance from firm leadership and the Chief Business Development Officer, support the firm's client service interview initiative.Lead pre-pitch assessment, material development and RFP support for all relevant BD opportunities.Working with the Sr Competitive Intelligence Manager and other firm resources, provide actionable business intelligence which may include prospect research, industry or geographic research and competitive analysis at the practice area level.Develop and maintain relationships with external organizations that are strategically relevant. Where the external relationship includes a financial commitment to sponsor the organization, ensure that we are leveraging the sponsorship to its maximum capacity, monitor and report on ROI and provide recommendations for future investments.Support the integration of lateral partners and senior counsel with an emphasis on facilitating strategic business opportunities.Oversee the timely preparation of strategic and compelling submissions to Chambers, Law360 and other target ranking publications and recognition opportunities.Qualifications:The position requires a high-energy and motivated team player who is also able to work independently as the business development point person for high-performing, fast-growing, and sophisticated industry groups; additionally, the successful candidate must demonstrate the agility to serve as an on-the-ground advisor for discrete New York-specific projects or initiatives.Excellent analytical and research skills and the ability to process information from a wide variety of sources.7+ years marketing or business development experience, with significant and demonstrable project management experience.Ability to manage multiple projects at once and respond quickly to inquiries so as to serve as an ambassador of superior internal client service. This role requires hands on abilities with limited support in a team environment. Ability to motivate attorneys while prioritizing workload is essential.Experience in managing both project-based and contributing to longer-term marketing and communications budgets.The candidate must be able to effectively communicate in both verbal and written formats, and, in conjunction with the Sr. Communication Manager, leverage established tone and message for all internal and externally facing materials.Ability to prioritize competing stakeholders and deadlines with a pleasant and professional demeanor.Self-starter and entrepreneurial spirit, yet highly collaborative in working with colleagues across departments, offices, and skill levels.A Bachelor's Degree is required, preferably in marketing, communications or a related field.Experience in a law firm andor professional services industry is preferred but not required.Occasional travel required among assigned offices, as well as to various meetings and pensation range is $158,000 to $189,000 commensurate with related experience and qualification. The salary of the candidate selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, specialty, and training. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the firm's reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
