Job DescriptionAre you passionate about unraveling the mysteries of proteins and their role in diseases such as Alzheimer's and cancer? The Wang Laboratory at the Icahn School of Mount Sinai is seeking a motivated researcher to dive into groundbreaking structural biology research. The Associate Researcher will gain hands on experience with cutting edge techniques such as cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography in a collaborative environment. This is an incredible opportunity for recent graduates to enhance their skills and contribute to higher impact projects.The Associate Researcher will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to express, purify, and analyze proteins of interest, contributing to structural studies that aim to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying disease. The role will involve conducting molecular biology and biochemistry experiments, supporting protein structure determination, and assisting in the preparation of experimental results for publication and presentation.ResponsibilitiesConduct protein expressions in bacterial, insect and mammalian systemsPurify proteins using techniques such as affinity chromatography, size exclusion chromatography, and other biochemical methodsAssist in preparing samples for structural studies using cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and X-Ray crystallographyPerform routine molecular biology tasks, including cloning, PCR and mutagenesisAssist with structural and functional assays, including bio-physical characterization (e.g. fluorescence based assays, electrophoresis)Contribute to laboratory maintenance, inventory and organization of reagents and samplesParticipate in weekly laboratory meetings and contribute to research discussionsCollaborate with lab members on data analysis, and documentation of experimental protocolsQualificationsBachelors or Masters degree in science in biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics or a related field1 - 2 years of researchlaboratory experienceExperience in molecular biology techniques such as PCR, cloning, and protein expressionFamiliarity with cell culture, baculovirus systems or tissue culture workExperience with protein purification techniques (e.g. affinity chromatography, gel filtration)Strong organizational skills and attention to detailGood communications skills and ability to work as part of a teamWillingness to learn new techniques and solve complex problemsAbout UsStrength Through Diversity The Mount Sinai Health System believes that diversity, equity, and inclusion are key drivers for excellence.
