Details: Process Engineer - Frederick, MDIndustry: ManufacturingPosition OverviewOur manufacturing facility in Frederick, MD is seeking an innovative and self-driven Process Engineer to collaborate with a team of engineers in optimizing production lines for an asphalt roofing manufacturing environment. This role requires a hands-on, solutions-oriented professional who can identify key areas for improvement, prioritize workload, and drive efficiency across operations.The Process Engineer will evaluate manufacturing machinery and auxiliary support equipment, utilizing data-driven insights to enhance performance, reduce downtime, and optimize processes. This individual will lead projects from concept through commissioning, tracking results, and reporting payback metrics to executive leadership. Additionally, they will facilitate change management documentation, including engineering drawings, manuals, and spare parts lists.This position reports directly to the Frederick Plant Engineering Manager.Key ResponsibilitiesTo be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the following areas. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities.Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance teams to understand departmental priorities.Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and contribute to initiatives both locally and across multiple manufacturing sites.Manage multiple projects simultaneously using the company's Project Management Process and Tracking System, ensuring execution from scope development to implementation.Develop and implement project specifications, including vendor bid requirements, cost-benefit analysis, and project municate and train staff on system changes, process improvements, and technical advancements.Facilitate documentation for all process modifications, ensuring compliance and knowledge retention.Apply engineering principles to drive data-based decision-making for process optimization.QualificationsMinimum Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Systems Engineering preferred) from an accredited institution.7+ years of relevant professional experience post-education.Proficiency in 3D Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) software (AutoCAD Inventor preferred).Strong ability to read and create Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and electrical one-line diagrams.Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and SAP.Hands-on approach, with a strong interest in working directly with machinery and production processes.Familiarity with precision measurement devices and hand tools.Ability to effectively present project concepts and results to maintenance teams, plant leadership, and executive management.Strong problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of using engineering principles and data mining to resolve process inefficiencies.Ability to prioritize tasks effectively, manage multiple projects, and adapt in a fast-changing environment.Preferred Qualifications (not required, but highly beneficial):Experience in roofing manufacturing or web process handling.Background in balance-of-plant system design, maintenance, and reliability.Previous experience as a Field Service Engineer or Manufacturing Engineer.Operating Engineer experience.Understanding of PLC controls logic and PID control loops.Physical Requirements & Work EnvironmentWork will be split between office settings and the production floor.The manufacturing facility operates 247, and this role may occasionally require extended hours for troubleshooting, project implementation, or training.
