ABOUT THE ROLEWe are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team supporting the Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) at their Bettis Atomic Power Plant! This position is full-time and will be based out of West Mifflin, PA or Schenectady, NY with hybrid flexibility.ResponsibilitiesSupport an exciting new project that will design and analyze support equipment for the next generation radiological shipping container for the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.Join the Submarine Spent Fuel Shipping Container Recapitalization Project within Reactor Servicing Systems.Perform engineering evaluations in support of the design and analysis of shipping container support equipment.Responsibilities will include:developing conceptual designs,producing detailed engineering drawings,performing structural analysis, alignment & tolerance studies (fit-up analysis), anddeveloping design specifications.Utilize experience with mechanical equipment design and structural analysis.May support engineering and business activities of the Reactor Servicing organization, as needed.RequirementsEducation & Years of Experience - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 5+ years of relevant experience.Citizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.Clearance - To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed. An active DOE "L" clearance is preferred.Must have Mechanical Design or Structural Analysis experience.Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.Must have experience with Microsoft Office.Must have technical writing skills.Desired SkillsFamiliarity with developing new equipment systems or hardware concepts.Alignment and tolerance studies or fit-up studies.Developing engineering drawings or specifications.Structural FEA experience.About the SiteThe Naval Nuclear Laboratory is comprised of the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, located in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory located in Niskayuna, New York, the Kesselring Site, located in West Milton, New York, and the Naval Reactor Facility located in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
