Ideal candidates will have prior experience working with children in child related services or youth sports instruction. Prior experience in gymnastics, dance, cheerleading, martial arts, or similar is a plus!EnglishSpanish speakers encouraged to apply.Gymnastics Instructors are part of the Recreation Leader classification of part-time hourly employees. While Gymnastics Instructor job responsibilities will be specific to classesactivities at the Novato Gymnastics Center, the Recreation Leader information is listed below.DEFINITIONPerforms duties and tasks associated with recreational activities provided through the various programs, camps, classes, activities, special events, and assist users of City buildings, predominantly outside of normal business hours, perform tasks related to monitoring building usage and other tasks as assigned.This is a part-timetemporary position.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSRecreation Leader II: This is a position normally assigned to a specific event, program, class, activity, or facility on a seasonal and-or irregular hire basis. Class is distinguished from level III in the difficulty of activities assigned.Recreation Leader III: This is the lead or more difficult task working level. Persons in this classification should be comfortable with working alone with minimal supervision as assigned.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDWorks under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor andor Coordinator responsible for the specific recreation program, camp, class, activity or event. Example of DutiesDuties may include, but are not limited to. the following:Recreation Leader I: Assists in recreation activity leadership including but not limited to indoor and outdoor games, crafts, and special events for programs serving youth of all ages.Assists in the instruction and supervision of recreational programs including but not limited to the following: camps, youth enrichment programs, youth athletics, gymnastics, arts & crafts, preschool, elementary and middle school programs.Responsible for care and safety of equipment and facilities in their charge: enforces safety procedures for program participants.Issues supplies and materials: does necessary field preparation for athletic events: acts as municates program information and provides general customer service.May be assigned cashiering responsibilities at a supervised swimming pool. aquatic event, program, camp, class, special event or other activity for which a fee is being charged. Cashiering duties include receiving money. maintaining attendance forms verifying receipts.Recreation Leader IIIII: Instruction and supervision of recreational programs including but not limited to the following: camps, youth enrichment programs, youth athletics, gymnastics, arts & crafts, preschool, elementary, middle school, and adult programs, classes, activities, and municates program information and provides general customer service.Administers a general event, program, camps, class or activity at an assigned recreation site.Monitor buildingfacility to ensure that the buildingfacility is used appropriately. that no damage is caused to the buildingfacility or its equipment. report and record any damage or incidents to the building, prepare appropriate Incident Reports, report and record any hazardous conditionsitems in need of repair to the Custodial Supervisor andor Recreation Supervisor.Assist custodians in set-up and take-down of chairs and equipment for meetings. classes and events.Provide customer serviceassistance to building users, renters, participants, visitors as necessary. provide routine information on City activities and facilities, answer telephones.May be responsible for opening and closing building.May perform leadership role for events, youth athletic league coach, day camp, classes, programs, support responsibilities for adult athletic leagues or for the more complex tasks as assigned.Responsible for care and safety of equipment and facilities in their charge.Enforces safety procedures for program participants and subordinate personnel.Maintains records and reports; provides information and assistance in program development.Leaders with prior Novato recreation experience may provide trainingguidance to new part-time employees.May, for a limited period of time, assume duties of the Recreation Leader III in hisher absence. Typical QualificationsExperienceAgeRecreation Leader I:Must be at least fourteen years of age. Demonstrate interest and ability in activity to be performed.Recreation Leader IIIII:Must be at least sixteen years of age. Demonstrate interest and ability in activity to be performed.CertificateRecreation leaders working with youth groups must be certified free from communicable tuberculosis according to California State Law and provide the City of Novato proof of recertification on a four-year cycle. Must submit set of fingerprints to California Department of Justice in order to work with children under 18 years old. Must be certified in CPR and First Aid.
