As part of our Product Engineering Team, you will be responsible for the design, validation, and manufacturing support of new products, as well as improving existing products and processes. Essential Responsibilities: Develops and documents clear product designs for both new and existing trailer products. Collaborate to specify product requirements with a focus on continuous improvement.Develop and interpret product testing and analysis requirements based on internal and industry standards.Produce initial production cost estimates and bills of material. Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Drafting Teams to produce manufacturing documentation, including but not limited to drawings with pertinent BOM's, and process instructions. Self-manage multiple concurrent projects, being cognitive of critical path items and tasks to minimize development time, from inception to initial production. Work with Production Team on shop floor to resolve production issues efficiently and effectively.Provides descriptions of components, assemblies, and machines to production and inventory control. Performs any necessary mathematical analysis to determine proper design characteristics.Monitors the product's performance and initiates changes as required to advance safety, performance, manufacturability, and improve profit. Provides technical assistance to sales and marketing, customer service, production, inventory control, manufacturing engineering, and engineering testreliability departments. Provides technical consultation to other engineering personnel as required. Participate in internal and external corrective and preventative actions.QualificationsRequired SkillsExperience:Minimum 5 years of experience in product development and proficiency in 3D CAD software (preferably SolidWorks). Minimum of 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment and cross-functional experience working with production, sales, quality, and purchasing.Proficiency in DFM (Design for Manufacturing) of welded structures, machined components, and assembly processes. Minimum 3 years of experience in computer aided engineering analysis (e.g. FEA, virtual validation, etc.).Minimum 2 years of experience in hydraulic andor pneumatic system design.Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate cross-functionally. Experience using Microsoft Office tools, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and project management tools.Preferred SkillsExperience: Proficiency in Materials Properties, RCA (Root Cause Analysis), DFMEA (Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis).Proficiency in heavy sheet metal design, beam design, and weld fabrication processes.Knowledge in tooling & fixture design would be a big plus. Knowledge of industry Federal regulations in lighting, conspicuity, and air brake system requirements and design.PLMPDM experience a plus.QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or an equivalent discipline is required.A broad understanding of machine structures, mechanisms, metal fabrication, and other manufacturing processes is required. An understanding of hydraulics, electronics or electrical systems, pneumatics, and machine controls may also be required depending on product line assignment.
