Technical Drafter & Lighting Industrial DesignerA luxury New York-based lighting design studio is seeking a Technical Drafter & Lighting Industrial Designer to support the development and production of high-end, bespoke lighting fixtures. This role requires a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, technical drafting, and design execution, ensuring that creative concepts are translated into precise, production-ready documentation. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with the internal team, factory partners, and suppliers to facilitate smooth production, troubleshoot technical challenges, and maintain the highest standards of craftsmanship. This position is integral to refining designs, optimizing production workflows, and upholding the studio's commitment to excellence in lighting design.Skills & ExperienceStrong understanding of manufacturing processes and industry standardsKnowledge of lighting production, including materials, fabrication techniques, and assembly requirementsProficiency in SolidWorks, Rhino, and Adobe Suite for technical drafting and design visualizationAbility to organize, maintain, and archive production documents and technical information systematicallyStrong communication skills to collaborate effectively with the internal team and factory partners, ensuring smooth production and design executionExperience working with vendors, fabricators, and suppliers to ensure manufacturing feasibility and resolve production challengesStrong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot technical and production issues efficientlyAbility to manage project timelines, meet deadlines, and adapt to evolving design and production needsRoles & ResponsibilitiesProduce detailed technical drawings for lighting production, including bills of materials and necessary documentationEnsure technical drawings adhere to industry standards, safety regulations, and manufacturing constraintsDevelop and maintain clear communication with the internal team and clients regarding bespoke lighting projectsWork closely with factories to ensure accurate translation of design goals into manufacturing processesMaintain ongoing communication with factories throughout the production process to address technical requirements and resolve any issuesConduct design revisions and updates as needed based on client feedback, manufacturing limitations, or internal adjustmentsCollaborate with engineers, fabricators, and suppliers to troubleshoot production challenges and refine designsCreate installation instructions and tear sheets for products to support manufacturing and end-user understandingAssist in developing 3D models for fixture concepts, ensuring feasibility and design integritySupport the creation of product renderings for visualization and presentation purposesMaintain an organized archive of technical drawings, 3D models, and related design documents for future reference
