Each year, MercyFirst serves more than 3,000 children, teenagers and families overcome enormous obstacles, re-imagine their futures and develop their full potential.PROGRAM BACKGROUND:The Medical Department provides medical services to children ages 0 to 21 that have been placed in MercyFirst care. Children placed in care are more likely than not to be exposed to adverse childhood experiences (ACE) and traumatic stress. ACE exposure is linked to poor academic performance, poor health outcomes, and certain diseases. The Medical Department is the first line of defense to help detect health problems early. They do so by providing evidence-based, strength-based, trauma-informed, and child-centered approach to service delivery. POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Nurse Supervisor, the Medical Assistant will assist the medical team in providing safe and knowledgeable medical assistance for youth in foster care and in residential settings. Responsible for general clerical tasks within the Medical Program as assigned by the supervisor.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:High School Diploma or Equivalent.Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record for most positions.Minimum 1 year's related experience required.Knowledge of infection control.Good organizational skills, ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.Knowledge of Microsoft word, electronic health records and medical terminology.Must have a certificate from a medical assistant certification program.RESPONSIBILITIES:Conduct all work with good faith and compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. Maintain good attendance and report to work on time. Complete attendance records accurately.Safeguard confidential information.Successfully complete minimum training municate accurate information in a timely manner to supervisors.Accurately complete job-related documentation in a timely municate in a professional manner to children, families, peers, outside agenciesvendors.Demonstrate cultural competence.Demonstrate a willingness to take on new responsibilities and alter performance with changing needs.Continually seek to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their department and the anize tasks, data and work area.Manage time municate effectively, both verbally and in writing.Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients. Ensure clean exam rooms in accordance with infection control standards between patients and after clinic.Assist the Medical team in the establishment of a medical home for children. Collaborate with LPNs to schedule appointments and obtain medical findingsrecords from external providers.Coordinate with the medical team and Medicaid Managed Care Liaisons for medical services that the child receives in the community by making appointments and transitioning the child to home- or community-based living with outpatient treatment (e.g., individual and family therapy) as part of discharge planningEnsure forms and documentation are maintained in an integrated system.Perform clerical duties for the department including but not limited to: filing, maintaining medical records, computer operation, telephone coverage and anize and maintain medical and programoffice supplies through inventory and ordering.Electronic Health Record-Data entry responsibilities.Track and process invoices for payment with the Fiscal department.Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients.
