The Lead Mechanic works with the Plumber as a team as well as the Maintenance Manager for Facilities performing major and minor projects as needed. The role of this position includes acting as a boiler technician. As an "essential" employee, you must remain or report for work during partial or full day closings of the site due to hazardous or other emergency conditions as well as inclement weather. This position is delegated the authority to prioritize work within the assigned tasks to maintain departmental work standards, work assignments and maintenance policy and procedure, goals and objectives. The Lead Mechanic is required to make decisions based on a full knowledge of these guidelines. Deviations from these guidelines must be reported andor approved by managementShift: Monday - Friday 8:00AM-4:15PMWork Duties Perform mechanical and plumbing repairs on equipment, fixtures, and systems. Conduct preventive maintenance, including inspections, cleaning, servicing, and adjustments. Use appropriate tools for daily repairs and maintenance tasks. Maintain and repair steam and hot water boilers, piping, valves, and pressure controls. Install and repair steamhot water piping systems (½" to 6") and related components. Repair boilers, water, and sewage pumping systems, including control systems. Replace pumps, motors, vacuum pumps, and work on heat exchangers. Maintain sewage and storm system piping, including clearing clogs. Research and order necessary parts for repairs and maintenance. Coordinate with contractors on system modifications and manage small projects. Prioritize and respond to work orders, diagnose issues, and document repairs. Allocate resources efficiently and verify task completion through field inspections. Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed. Communicate effectively with the Maintenance Manager and team. Maintain records, logs, and submit reports, noting any discrepancies. Ensure compliance with University policies, work standards, and safety protocols. Report any injuries or accidents immediately. Work independently with accountability and flexibility for additional assignments. Team-oriented, dependable, proactive, problem-solver, clear communicator, and adaptable to organizational changes. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Experience: 10+ years of hands-on experience in a related field. Education: High School Diploma or GED. Physical Requirements: Frequent walking, standing, climbing, crawling, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Requires manual dexterity and coordination for equipment operation. Certifications: NYC Certificate of Fitness for Low-Pressure Oil Burner Operator (P-99) required. License: Valid driver's license with a clean record. Skills: Proficiency in English (reading & writing). Ability to read system blueprints and building piping layouts. Basic mathematical calculations related to plumbing systems. Knowledge of plumbing systems, components, tools, and safety procedures. Experience with gas and oil boiler burner controls, Heat Timer panels, and Building Management Systems (AndoverSchneider preferred). Preferred (Not Required): Familiarity with NTI Hot Water Systems and heat pump systems.
