The organization has evolved into one of the nation's preeminent reentry and justice-informed service organizations, providing formerly incarcerated people with the skills and wrap-around services needed to break the cycle of crime and incarceration and to build productive lives in their communities. Fortune has grown steadily over the years to an agency just under $79 million in annual budget with just under 600 staff. We anticipate that we will keep growing, both in size and in depth of service. Fortune has a dual mission: both advocacy and service. The advocacy portion of our mission focuses on building a more just criminal legal system and reducing the barriers to reentry into society. The service side of Fortune has evolved to encompass a broad range of programs that started with employment and education and now includes a robust array of services, among them: alternatives to incarceration, supervised release, court advocacy, discharge planning within correctional facilities, licensed substance use and mental health treatment, a housing continuum ranging from emergency and transitional through permanent congregate and scattered site housing, assistance in obtaining benefits, a care management unit, HIV services, a food and nutrition program, and an arts program. Each service we provide is informed by the needs of the population we serve. Fortune currently serves approximately 14,000 people a year. Our participant population mirrors the incarcerated population in being approximately 85% male and over 90% people of color. Our program models are recognized, both nationally and internationally, for their quality and innovation.Position SummaryUnder the supervision of the Team Leader (Operations Supervisor), the DriverData Assistant will be responsible for transportation support to individuals returning from custody to the community. They will support with conducting pick-ups of participants and transporting them to Fortune's community office(s) andor other Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) or programs. When the DriverData Assistant is not conducting pick-ups, they will provide administrative support to the team, including collecting physical documentation and recording data into various Client Record Management (CRM) systems.Mission, Culture and FitThe DriverData Assistant must embody the values and mission of the Fortune Society. Customer ServiceThe DriverData Assistant is polite and has great communication skills. It is essential as they need to interact regularly with participants and colleagues for long periods of time. Their good customer servicing skills create a welcoming environment for those who are returning to the community.Time ManagementThe DriverData Assistant will have the ability to effectively manage their time. They will need to routinely plan their routes to ensure for timely arrivals and departures. DriverData Assistants also need to effectively manage their time in office to ensure they have time to record data as quickly as possible to support with program reporting needs. NavigationThe DriverData Assistant will have proficiency in navigation. This includes both traditional map-reading abilities and being well-versed in the use of GPS technology. Effective navigation ensures timely arrivals and departures, while providing a customer service approach to the transportation experience for individuals returning to the community. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesConduct participant transportpick-ups from NYS DOCCS facilities (downstate region) to Fortune's community office(s) or other partner organizations or affiliates;Collect and maintain adequate data records, recording data from transportation activities and conduct data entry for other program activities and support with the improvement of collecting, maintaining, and processing data;Build and maintain internalexternal relationships.Transport participants to scheduled appointments and meetings;Assist staff members with picking up and dropping off documents to stakeholders or participants and their families;Establish and maintain rapport with clients during pick-ups and drop-offs, and, when appropriate, inform them about Fortune's services;Advocate for needed services, support with resources and internal or external referrals;Maintain and monitor confidentiality of participant files;Process and submit all reports and documents accurately and in a timely manner;Establish standards that will ensure appropriate boundaries and suitable behaviors;Complete all necessary documentation and input data into case management database in a timely manner;Collaborate with internal departments as needed;Attend and participate in all necessary meetings, conferences, and trainings;Engage in hishertheir own ongoing professional development; andAdditional responsibilities as required.QualificationsQualifications:High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree from and accredited college or university in social work, psychology, counseling, human services or education preferred;Documentation, analysis, research, decision making, conflict resolution and people skills; Bilingual (EnglishSpanish) preferred;Skilled communicator who is able to liaise interdepartmentally as well as with community partners and stakeholders;Ability to work a flexible schedule;Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Excel, Outlook and Office 365;Ability to apply skills learned from prior work experience, or formal academic training in a related subject area, to the day-to-day project activities; and demonstrated success in being participant-centered, self-motivated with excellent relationship novation and initiative are a must; Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment with varying demands; Time management and organizations skills; Have a valid driver's license with a clean driving history;Ability to work well with NYS DOCCS personnel, with a patient and flexible approach to work;Ability to work independently and on a team;Ability to secure NYS DOCCS volunteer services clearance; Experience andor desire to work with a culturally diverse population; andWe seek talented, dedicated individuals from all walks of life who possess a strong commitment to this mission. Relevant personal experience is a plus. Travel Requirements - Frequent travel between assigned NYS DOCCS Facilities. Travel to LongIsland City office, other Fortune offices, meetings, trainings, Community Based Organizations,conferences and other relevant events.
