As a proud minority-owned business, we value diversity, equity, and inclusion and foster a collaborative workplace.Role Overview:The Purchasing Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring Kommissary's operations run seamlessly by sourcing the highest-quality ingredients, materials, and supplies at the best value. This position is essential to maintaining a reliable supply chain, optimizing costs, and fostering strong vendor relationships. Collaborating closely with kitchen, inventory, and operations teams, the Procurement Specialist drives efficiency and innovation while upholding Kommissary's commitment to excellence and quality in every meal.Key Responsibilities:Source and purchase high-quality ingredients, packaging, and materials, ensuring alignment with production and quality needs.Build and maintain strong vendor relationships to secure competitive pricing, reliability, and consistent quality.Manage bid sheets and negotiate contracts to achieve cost savings and improve supplier terms.Collaborate with kitchen and inventory teams to forecast demand and prevent supply chain disruptions.Oversee and maintain the traceability system, ensuring accurate tracking and compliance with food safety standards.Analyze procurement data, market trends, and supplier performance to identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.Monitor vendor compliance with delivery schedules, product specifications, and contract agreements.Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and new sourcing opportunities to enhance procurement strategies.Support cross-functional initiatives to improve operational efficiency and meet company goals.Perform other job-related duties as assigned.Qualifications:3+ years of experience in procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management, preferably in food production or hospitality.Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage vendor relationships effectively.Proficiency in procurement systems and inventory management tools; experience with traceability systems is a plus.Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and an analytical mindset.Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including kitchen, inventory, and operations.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with vendors and internal stakeholders.Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.Fluency in English is required; bilingual in Spanish is a plus.What We Offer:Competitive salary: $59,000-$71,000 per year.Health insurance, PTO, and professional development opportunities.A mission-driven, inclusive workplace with growth opportunities.Physical Demands:This position requires on-site presence as an essential function of the role and will require travel to LIC, NY and Bronx, NY. Consistent and predictable on-site presence is required for ongoing business continuity, professional development and effective collaboration with colleagues and management. For this position, an on-site presence is required at any of our locations depending on the needs of the Director of Operations. Continually operates a computer, keyboard and mouse, and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, printer, and mobile Smartphone device. Constantly positions self to comfortably maintain computer equipment. May occasionally be required to move about in an office setting or position office equipment weighing between 10-25 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. The person in this position frequently communicates with other people.
