Bus Mechanic needed for our Transportation Department - MAJOR FUNCTION:The School District is seeking candidates who possess excellent interpersonal skills, the desire to work with energetic teammembers, and the ability to relate well within the school community. School Bus Mechanic will work to ensure all districtvehicles are operating safely. Ensure Vehicle Safety and Compliance: Conduct routine safety inspections and preventive maintenance on schoolbuses, vans, trucks, and other district equipment to comply with state and federal regulations.2. Diagnose and Repair Vehicles: Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostictools and equipment, ensuring vehicles remain operational and safe.3. Maintain Key Equipment: Inspect, repair, and maintain essential onboard equipment, such as GPS units, cameras, andradios, to support safety and operational efficiency.4. Perform Preventive Maintenance: Carry out regular maintenance tasks, including oil changes, brake inspections, tirerotations, and fluid checks, to minimize downtime and extend vehicle lifespan.5. Follow Outsourcing Protocols: Adhere to established protocols for outsourcing specialized repairs or maintenance tasksthat cannot be completed in-house, while ensuring vendors meet quality standards.6. Provide Emergency Roadside Service: Respond promptly to on-road vehicle breakdowns, performing necessary repairsor arranging for towing services to minimize service disruptions.7. Maintain Inventory and Supplies: Monitor, order, and manage an adequate supply of parts, tools, and materials forrepairs, ensuring availability for ongoing maintenance operations.8. Record and Document Maintenance: Complete work orders and maintain accurate logs of all repairs, inspections, andmaintenance activities in the fleet management system for compliance and tracking.9. Collaborate with the Transportation Team: Work closely with transportation staff to prioritize repairs, addressequipment concerns, and recommend fleet upgrades or replacements when needed.10. Ensure Operational Efficiency and Safety: Recommend changes to enhance safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness;maintain a clean, organized, and OSHA-compliant workshop environment.ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: In addition to the foregoing essential job functions, the employee is required to performthe following additional duties, unless such a duty cannot be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.1. Assist drivers when required to maintain proper fuel supply, engine oil level, transmission oil level, engine coolantlevel, and proper air pressure in tires.2. Maintain a clean and orderly work area. 3. Assist with snow and ice removal as needed.4. Transport school students as necessary when staffing needs demand.5. Other duties as may be assignedQUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary dutysatisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training,skills, andor ability necessary.1. High School diploma or GED2. Previous experience providing maintenance and repair of transportation vehicles3. Previous experience maintainingrepairing school buses and diesel engines preferred4. Previous experience with vehicle bodywork a plus5. Clean driving record6. Current Class B CDL with Air Brake Restriction Removed. School Bus and Passenger Endorsements preferred or mustbe obtained within one year. Training will be provided by the district.7. Class 7 State Inspection license preferred or must be obtained within one year8. Excellent oral and written communication skills9.
