From providing safety for the people using the swimming pool to overseeing recreational activities and routine maintenance; and performing related work as required.ESSENTIAL DUTIESThis is the first working level in the lifeguard series; prevents accidents through the enforcement of policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of persons at the swimming pool; keeps attentive lookout for accidents in the water or on a diving board or swimming pool deck; warns people against dangerous practices regarding pool use; enters the water to rescue people in distress; administers artificial respiration and first aid and calls for emergency response on serious accident cases; assists with routine pool cleaning and maintenance work on or about the swimming pool as required; may open the facility and supervise pool operations; assists in supervising special swim events; may be required to work weekends, evenings, andor holidays.TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONSLifeguard:Possession of a valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certificate (or Ellis Lifesaving or YMCA Lifesaving Certificate); First Aid for the Professional Rescuer Certificate; CPR Certificate; and Title 22 Certificate.Training and Experience:Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
