La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center. Supervising Lifeguards supervise aquatics staff, set guarding rotations, and perform duties related to swim instructors and lifeguards. Supervising Lifeguards inspect and observe pool areas, monitor patrons and staff, and respond to potential hazards and unsafe conditions. Typical Duties Performed (These examples do not include all the duties which may be assigned).Ensures an excellent guest experience.Oversees the daily operations of the Aquatics Center.Plans, develops, conducts and supervises a wide variety of activities regarding the operations of the Aquatics Center.Acts as the Aquatics SupervisorCoordinator in hisher absence.Supervises, trains, and mentors lifeguards, swim instructors, and other aquatics staff. Maintains accurate records; prepares reports and written communications as needed.Takes charge of emergency situations, provides emergency care as necessary, and prepares incident reports. Assigns job responsibilities to staff such as lifeguard rotations, swim instructor schedules, facility clean up and maintenance.Tests and monitors water chemistry and clarity; inspects facilities including pools, pool decks, water park, restrooms and showers, and pump rooms. Performs the duties of a lifeguard and swim instructor as needed.May assist with daily operations of Splash! Food Service including but not limited to, food preparation, customer service, cash handling, inventory control, merchandise and supply restocking, and facility management.Assists in citywide special events and community recreation activities.Adheres to City and departmental policies and proceduresPerforms related work duties as assigned. Minimum QualificationsMust possess excellent customer services skills.Must be at least 18 years of age.Knowledge of: Policies, procedures, and regulations governing the conduct and safety of persons using aquatic equipment and facilities; principles and practices of aquatics programming, supervision methods, facility management, American Red Cross swimming and lifeguarding standards, safety practices, pool chemistry, lifesaving techniques, CPR, and First Aid; methods, materials, and equipment involved in the maintenance and operation of swimming pools.Ability to: Organize, conduct, and supervise a variety of aquatics programs. Pass initial and follow-up tests of safety and pool procedures; swim with proficiency and endurance; read, understand, and carry out written and oral directions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, community groups, staff, and other agencies; exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact with staff and the public; assign tasks when needed; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:Two years of experience as a lifeguard, swim instructor, pool technician, pool manager or related position is required. Supervisory experience is preferred. Must have graduated from high school or the equivalent. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License is required.Possession of valid CPR, AED, First Aid, and Lifeguarding certificates are required.Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and Pool Operator (CPOAFO) certifications are required within the first six (6) months of employment and training will be provided by the City.A Food Handler's Certificate may be required, and training will be provided by the City. Supplemental InformationPositions require availability to work varying shifts on days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Candidates with open availability will be given preference when hiring.IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:Mandatory staff training is scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2025.Buccaneer Bay water park at Splash! Aquatics Center is open from May 17 to September 27, 2025. Candidates will be required to pass a City administered pre-employment requirements which include live scan fingerprinting and a medical examination as part of the selection process. Candidates who do not pass any portion of the above processes will be disqualified and removed from proceeding in the selection process.A completed online application and supplemental questionnaire are required to be considered for this position.
