Depending on staffing needs, Deputies will be assigned to the Jail Division and asked to complete Jail Field Training (4-month time frame) before being allowed to test for transfers to patrol, courts, detectives, or any other special assignments (Note: Each assignment has various requirements and qualifications. Prior certified experience will be considered for these assignments). Examples of Important and Essential Duties of Jail Deputy: Adhere to policy, procedures, and post orders Responsible for the protection of life and property; prevention of crimes; apprehension of criminals Duties include but not limited to, answer calls for service; complete appropriate and required paperwork; testify in court; resolve conflict; complete required training; communicate clearly with citizens and other law enforcement professionals; dispense information to those who need it Prepare variety of reportsEnforce Federal, State, and local laws and regulationsPatrol assigned area to enforce laws, investigate crimes, and arrest violators Investigate illegal or suspicious activities or persons, quell disturbances, arrest violators Conduct preliminary investigation at the scene of a crime, administer first aid, and gather evidenceBook in new inmates by receiving inmates from various jurisdictions.Prepare Inmates for general housing. Examples of Duties for Success A Colorado POST Certification can be obtained by the lateral by challenging the POST Certification Test within a reasonable time after being hired. You have 6 months from receiving your provisional certificate to successfully challenge the Colorado POST. This phase is passfail. Candidates must complete the course in 1 minute, 57 seconds or less to continue in the selection process. Participation for the PAC testing is mandatory. Physical Fitness Test Battery (mandatory)The physical fitness assessment is a series of four tests to include: cadence push-ups, sit-ups, a 1 12 mile run and a flexibility test. Candidates may receive up to 40 points for the fitness assessment. This portion of the test is mandatory and is used to rank candidates. Oral Board InterviewThe oral board interview will take approximately 30 minutes. Candidates must obtain a 70% or greater in the oral board to continue.Opportunity to obtain additional points in the areas of education and military service. Each stage of the process will be communicated to the candidate by a recruiter.
