Your OpportunityStantec's Environmental Services sector is seeking a highly motivated Coastal Engineering Specialist to join our rapidly growing team and deliver projects in a multi-disciplinary team environment. The preferred location is New York City, NY. Other office locations as well as flexible office schedules will be considered for the right candidate. The ideal candidate will have 0-5 years of experience in coastal engineering, port and marine engineeringconstruction, marine science, or oceanography. Team members are expected to be able to contribute to several areas of coastal engineering and provide support in the following areas: Natural Hazards and Coastal Risk MappingCoastal Hydrodynamics and MorphologyDesign and Analysis of Coastal Structures, Dredging, and Beach Nourishment ProjectsCoastal Management, Environmental Restoration, and Shoreline EnhancementField Measurements, Instrumentation, Remote-SensingConstruction Monitoring and OversightYour Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Coastal Engineering Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering successful coastal projects and working as part of an integrated team to develop cost-effective, practical coastal engineering designs and construction solutions for our clients. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:Work to protect the health and safety of Stantec employees, clients, and the public by following company health, safety and security guidelines and policiesCommunicate and apply with a high level of understanding the principles and practices of coastal engineering, coastal hydrodynamics, wave theory, and sediment transport mechanicsComplete complex engineering calculations and modeling for the design or analysis of projects located in coastal environments and ecosystem restoration projectsProvide engineering leadership at a project level task and work with other engineering staff to complete projectsComplete tasks assigned by a Senior Coastal Engineer and work with junior engineers to complete engineering studies and design projectsPlan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of the coastal engineering work in marine-related projectsRemaining current on regulatory policy and rule changesMaintain consistently high standards of delivery, quality, flexibility, and innovationPerform coastal engineering analyses and designs through the application of coastal theoryOrganize and interpret engineering data to prepare clear and concise design drawings, engineering reports, and technical documentationAssist in obtaining State and Federal project permits and perform permit compliancePrepare project construction plans and specificationsFieldwork responsibilities may include performing project construction observation, interpreting contract documents, enforcing contract specifications, and reviewing submittals for accuracy, completeness, and design consistencyCommunicate with co-workers, clients, and the public in a professional manner including in a meeting or presentationPrioritize and accomplish multiple assignments efficiently and effectively with limited supervisionUnderstand the limitations of your education and experience and bring problems beyond your capability to the supervisor's attentionDemonstrated ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, management, and vendors to meet and adapt to needsEnsure conformance to applicable engineering codes and standards as well as company policies and proceduresOther work activities may include assisting in proposal efforts, preparation of labormaterial estimates, designing packages and deliverables, documenting technical data for management review, and performing other duties as assigned Your Capabilities and CredentialsStrong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to conduct effective client and agency presentations and written technical report preparationProven skills working in diverse team environments with staff, clients, and stakeholdersAbility to perform fieldwork, such as reconnaissance, measurements, construction inspection, or instrument handling and deploymentExperience completing design calculations for the coastal engineering practice including marine structures, rubble mound structures, geotechnicalfoundation designs, hydrodynamicsfluid mechanics, beach nourishment, dredgefill, and sediment disposal site designsCompletion of coastal engineering analysis in support of coastal flood hazard studies under a predefined framework, specifically wave runupovertopping analysis and wave overland propagation analysisExperience preparing design plans and specifications for bidding and construction purposesDrafting andor geospatial design (GIS and AutoCAD) experienceProficient user of Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)Education and ExperienceBachelor of Science degree in Coastal, Civil, or Environmental Engineering with 0-5 years of experience in one of the areas of expertise listed above.
