The Police Department is seeking men and women that exhibit characteristics of good character, sound judgment, honesty, reliability and integrity that blend together with a philosophy for community-oriented policing and a strong desire to serve the interests of the citizens of Prince George's County. Candidates approved for hire in this position will attend a Comparative Compliance EPO Academy. The Comparative Compliance EPO Academy is a 23 week course of instruction designed to meet all of the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC) objectives for certification as a police officer in the State of Maryland. The Comparative Compliance EPO Academy will be offered to all NON-MARYLAND CERTIFIED experienced police officers, to include Federal, Local, and Out-of-State jurisdictions with at least one and a half (1.5) years of service with their respective agencies. The Comparative Compliance EPO Academy is a professional learning environment for advanced officers, NOT a basic instructional academy. EPO candidates must be currently certified by a recognized agency and have completed at least one and one half years as a full time Police Officer.Examples of Work The typical duties of a police officer, upon whom public safety depends, include: responding to calls; maintaining order in an assigned patrol area; enforcing criminal and traffic laws mandated and authorized by the State and local laws and ordinances; report writing, courtroom presentation of cases; and providing effective and efficient service to the citizens of Prince George's County.
