Job DescriptionThe Senior Mechanical Engineer, operating under general supervision, is tasked with directing or executing engineering assignments of varying size and complexity within their area of expertise. These responsibilities may involve coordinating efforts among architects, engineers, users, and consultants. For these assignments, the Senior Mechanical Engineer establishes design criteria, ensures the accuracy of drawings, may authorize or implement field design modifications, and may represent the section or department in resolving issues and planning and coordinating work. The primary objective of this role is to provide in-house mechanical engineering expertise to consistently and efficiently address routine, emergency, and critical projects.ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities Engineer and design projects to support the Capital and Operations & Maintenance budgets of Facilities, including buildings and yards of Service Centers and Commercial Buildings, and projects for Steam Distribution, Substation Operations, Electrical Operations, IT, and Transportation Operations. Provide engineering support for various types of commercial buildingyard mechanical systems (e.g. heating ventilation & air conditioning, controls, pumping and heat exchange). Must be knowledgeable in NYS and NYC Building Codes and capable of performing equipment sizing calculations and selecting mechanical equipment. Review and approve contractor designs, calculations, shop drawings and submittals. Serve as a consultant within the company or the industry in area of specialization. Perform cost benefit analysis and conducts conceptual studies to determine best designs; and prepare budgets and appropriation requests. Prepare or direct the preparation of budgets and appropriation requests for specific projects. Serve as the Section Manager when delegated and act as an expert witness when needed. Direct, coordinate, and review work of other architects, designers and engineers, and architecturalengineering firms.QualificationsRequired EducationExperience Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 8 years of experience in areas of design, and application of engineering principles in assigned areas of expertise or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 6 years of experience in areas of design, and application of engineering principles in assigned areas of expertise.Preferred EducationExperience Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 6 years of experience in areas of design, and application of engineering principles in assigned areas of expertise.Relevant Work Experience Must be a motivated individual with strong leadership abilities and demonstrated initiatives - Required Must be knowledgeable in NYS and NYC Building Codes and capable of performing equipment sizing calculations and selecting mechanical equipment - Required Possess strong analytical skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities with a proven record of accomplishments in providing architectural support for various types of projects - Required Strong interpersonal skills as well as good oral and written communication skills to interact with various departments and customers (internal and external) at all levels - Required Must be able to perform required calculations and select equipment in support of capital and O&M project designs - Required Professional Engineering license is highly desirable - PreferredSkills and Abilities Proficient in English written and verbal communication skills Effective leadership skills Demonstrates a high commitment to quality Strong mechanical skills Excellent interpretation of complex statistical dataLicenses and Certifications Driver's License Required Professional Engineer (PE) PreferredPhysical Demands Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 25 pounds Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday Stand to useoperate office equipment for the duration of the workday Ability to read small print and symbolsAdditional Physical Demands Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
