Brooklyn, Queens and Jamaica Programs are scattered site housing and do not have clients living in one building.STATEMENT OF THE JOB:The Agency has embraced the concept of a fully integrated system of care for all consumers of service. This requires that staff assess clients' needs holistically and see it as their responsibility to connect the client with services needed both internal and external to the Agency, regardless of the door through which the consumer enters the system. All staff members are required to read and commit to fulfilling the Agency and BHS Mission Statement. Under the Supervision of the Unit Supervisors and Clinical Manager, the Residence Maintenance Counselor has responsibility to maintain and complete minor repairs in apartments serviced, conducting apartments inspections, for assisting with the rehabilitation and recovery services offered to residents at Brooklyn Community Living program. The Residence Maintenance Counselor ensures the rights, safety and approved care of all clients by implementing best practices in accordance with regulations of the New York State Office of Mental Health and Department of Health & Mental Hygiene as well guidelines implemented by the Agency. The Residence Maintenance Counselor is required to maintain a professional and ethical disposition at all times.* Coordinating daily operation of Supportive and Supported units.* Coordinating activities regarding repairsimprovements with Housing Supervisor and Program Unit Supervisor of Residential Services, landlords, superintendents of buildings and vendors.* Conducting monthly inspections to all apartments. * Coordinating all arrangements needed for treatment of Bed bugs infestation.* Ensuring that all existing units are cleaned and disinfected prior to new occupancy.* Reporting to the Clinical Manager, Housing Coordinator andor Unit Supervisor any conditions which may be hazardous to residents.* Maintaining organization of all apartment charts, work orders completion and regular inspections documentation, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors charts.* Maintaining hygiene standards beyond the landlord's responsibility when it is required for emergency hygiene maintenance on a 24-hour basis. * Documenting all visits, contacts and repair arrangements in AWARD electronic system.* Ensure that all discharged charts have all necessary documentation and signatures* Reporting to Behavioral Health Services Administration andor Agency Administration issues that may have a negative impact on the reputation of the Agency, client andor staff welfare or any corporate compliance issue.* Cooperating with any and all investigations conducted by the Agency, funding sources and any other authorized agenciesentities. * Assisting the maintenance staff with minor repairs and improvements to the residences when not otherwise provided by building management. * Assisting residents with housekeeping, if required.* Participating in the on-call duty roster for coverage, if required.* Provision of coverage when required due to shortage of staff. * Assisting client to establish new accounts for telephone and utilities in client name.* Participating in the referral process to appropriate community service providers, providing the necessary linkage to psychiatric, rehabilitative, financial, medical and legal services to ensure quality resident care.* Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.* Assisting with submission and maintaining of CAIRS and LOS reports. * Accompany clients to scheduled appointment with service providers, if needed. * Assisting the Housing Coordinator of Residential Services to acquire apartments, as established by contract. QUALIFICATIONS:* Bachelor's Degree in Social Services, Mental Health, or a related discipline required.* Previous experience working with people with mental disabilities preferred. * Must be able to perform repairs and to share emergency on-call. * Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings according to the needs of program operation.* Excellent Computer skills & ability to travel throughout the five boroughs as needed. * Ability to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, & office equipment.* Ability to lift, carry, push, andor pull weight up to 50 lbs. * Able to mop, sweep, climb ladders, and use basic tools, maintenance tools and equipment. * Ability to stand for longer periods of time; able to bend, kneel, and crouch.
