Description Position purpose Management of the New York State Education Department (NYSED)-funded Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP).Major ResponsibilitiesDutiesFunctionsTasks: Managing the day-to-day operations of a New York State Education Department (NYSED)-funded Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) under the direction of the Project Director. This includes, but is not limited to, managing the budget and operating the program within the resources and constraints provided to meet all NYSED and Vaughn goals. Managing and implementing educational interventions, including but not limited to faculty-student mentoring, workshops, tutoring, and classes. Internship placements are managed in partnership with the Office of Career Services. The program has Fall, Spring and Summer interventions, including the intensive summer program. Interventions should be within the charge of a CSTEP program and aligned with the students' needs and the input of the advisory boards. Advising and mentoring all CSTEP students. This includes, but is not limited to, advising CSTEP students during the course registration period, providing STEM career counseling (in partnership with the Office of Career Services), providing financial aid information (in partnership with the Office of Financial Aid), engaging in "intrusive advisement" to ensure student success, and actively encouraging students to participate in the program's required educational interventions. Conducting STEM career, academic, group, and personal counseling for participants as needed. Maintaining individualized service plans for CSTEP students. Recruiting, retaining and registering students who are qualified for the program. The program is expected to meet all NYSED goals including, but not limited to, the number of participants and demonstrated positive educational outcomes. Conducting required supplementary grant activities, including but not limited to, Service-Learning Events, Regional and Statewide Conferences, and advisory board meetings. This also includes, but is not limited to, engaging members of the Vaughn community in the guidance of the program and in select activities. Collecting documentation on participants as required by NYSED and Vaughn College. This includes, but is not limited to, signed applications indicating program eligibility and records of participation. Program statistics should be organized electronically so that data are readily available for decisions. Paper documentation should be kept in accordance with NYSED rules. Authoring timely and accurate program reports to NYSED. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining accurate participant records and gathering assessment data. Assessing the CSTEP program in accordance with the procedures put forth by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness. Participating in CSTEP-related organizations, such as the CSTEP regional group and the Association of Program Administrators of CSTEP and STEP, Inc. (APACS). Supervising and evaluating program staff, as needed. Traveling to local schools to disseminate information, recruit cohort participants, and for other purposes. Traveling with students to conferences and on field trips may also be required. Developing marketing materials and recruitment activities. Collaborating internally at the College to recruit students from high school programs and provide educational pathway options for students. Participating in College meetings including those for the Division of Academic Success and the Department of Engineering as requested. Submitting time and effort reports in accordance with the procedures put forth by the Office of Grants. All other duties as assigned.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Education andor Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree in education, social work, counseling, or STEM-related fields from an accredited college or university. Bachelor's degrees in aeronautics, engineering, or other relevant disciplines will also be considered. A Master's degree is preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience (or two (2) years with a Master's degree) in a state or federal program or a similar STEM-related programproject serving minority, historically underrepresented, andor economically disadvantaged students. Experience coordinating STEM-related project programming and organizing field experiences.Professional Skills Ability to write in proper business English; Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; Ability to clearly prioritize and organize tasks so that each is completed in an appropriate and timely order. Ability to keep, organize and retrieve detailed records on student enrollment and performance. Ability to delegate and follow up on tasks as appropriate.Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions. Ability to understand and follow directions.Work environment and physical functions This position is located in an office environment. Generally, an employee needs to be able to sit, stand, and navigate within the office area. The office equipment either individually used or shared with a department is the responsibility of all employees.Preferred Experience advising students on academic courses. Knowledge of New York State Education Department grant policies. 3+ years' experience with the CSTEP program as a participant, instructor or administrator. Preferred software knowledge: Crystal Reports; D2L (or similar learning management system); SONIS (or similar student management systems); Starfish (or similar student early intervention systems); Zoom (or similar video conference software).
