Description Position purposeVaughn College seeks an energetic and dedicated individual for a full-time position in the marketing and communications department to assist the team in all aspects of the implementation of the College's strategic public relations and marketing plan. This position, which reports to the assistant director of marketing and communications, will play a significant role in supporting the daily activities of the department including maintaining the website content and edits, writing news articles, press releases, graphic design of materials, social media posting and media relations efforts.The ideal candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong writing, editing, graphic design, social media and organizational skills. Experience in public relations, public affairs or communications is preferred.Major ResponsibilitiesDutiesFunctionsTasks Assisting in the writing, editing and production of marketing collateral, alumni magazines, multiple newsletters, event programs, institutional publications and more Assisting with ad and flyer design and social media posting utilizing Vaughn's color palette and official logos Writing news items for the website Daily editingupdating of information on the College's website including news and events, individual department updates and the faculty and staff directory Proofing a variety of written materials according to Associated Press style and Vaughn's style guide Managing the media monitoring account and distribution of press releases, news articles and photographs to media outlets Developing project timelines, trafficking jobs, maintaining deadlines Attendance at College events during days, evenings, and periodic weekends. Education andor Experience RequirementsMinimum Criteria: Bachelor's degree required in English, communications or public relations. Entry-level to one year of experience interning in, or working in a communications department of a company, education setting or agency is required.Professional SkillsAbility to read, write and interpret data as needed. The ideal candidate will possess some writing background as demonstrated by news or feature articles, website articles, news releases or similar. Ability to effectively represent the goals and mission of the College in print, online and in direct communication with members of the media is essential. Strong writing and editing background Experience with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Canva Ability to use Microsoft Office Applications including Word, PowerPoint and Excel Ability to usemonitor media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTokReasoning Ability Ability to plan, prioritize, and problem-solve while handling multiple projects and meeting deadlines.Work environment and physical functionsAT THIS TIME, THIS IS A HYBRID WORKING POSITION. This position is located in an office environment. Generally an employee needs to be able to sit, stand, and navigate within the office area.
