Job Type Full-timeDescriptionPosition Summary: We are seeking an experienced 2nd Shift Lead Mechanic to oversee and lead a dynamic maintenance team in a fast-paced environment. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Lead Mechanic will supervise a team of technicians responsible for the preventive maintenance and repair of our fleet, machinery supporting our post-collection facility, and equipment servicing the container shop.This role requires strong leadership skills to ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Lead Mechanic will also be responsible for planning, scheduling, and monitoring repair work to maximize efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve team performance.RequirementsPrincipal Responsibilities:Supervision & Leadership: Lead a team of technicians to ensure all repairs and maintenance work is performed safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner. Monitor and redirect activities to meet operational goals, providing guidance on performance, coaching, counseling, and corrective actions as needed.Operational Oversight: Report on team performance to management and recommend improvements for operational efficiency and process enhancements. Conduct fleet walks and oversee daily shop expectations.Employee Management: Oversee hiring and termination decisions in coordination with HR and management. Conduct employee training, performance evaluations, and identify training opportunities to support technician development.Quality Control & Compliance: Perform inspections of outside repairs to ensure all work meets the Company's safety and compliance standards, as well as federal and state regulations. Track issues and resolutions through quality control inspections.Advanced Diagnostics & Repairs: Oversee diagnostics and troubleshooting for complex repair issues, providing support and coaching to technicians as necessary. May require road testing vehicles to identify needed ventory & Budget Management: Ensure proper inventory control of parts and equipment, with purchases staying within budget. Approve expenses within the scope of the approval level and refer major expenses or repairs to management as needed.Maintenance Knowledge: Utilize advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems to maintain and repair heavy equipment and vehicles. Apply expertise in vehicle body control systems, heating and cooling systems, and welding techniques to ensure repairs are done safely and efficiently.Administrative Oversight: Manage administrative tasks for the team, including payroll, maintenance of employee records, and documentation of preventive and corrective maintenance performed.
