Position: Finance Associate Location: New York City with a hybrid schedule Status: Full-time fixed-term employment for 12 months with potential for renewal Compensation: $60,000-70,000 USD per annum, commensurate with experience BACKGROUND The Mayors Migration Council (MMC) is a mayor-led coalition that accelerates ambitious global action on migration and displacement. With most of the world's migrants and displaced people living in cities, our mission is to use the power of city diplomacy and city practice to create a world where urban migrants, displaced people, and receiving communities can thrive. To achieve our mission, we provide mayors with advocacy, coordination, and communications support to influence policy decisions at the national and international level, and connect city governments to the knowledge, technical, and financial resources they need to accelerate and scale local solutions. Created by mayors for mayors, we are a nimble team of political advisors and urban practitioners guided by a Leadership Board of global city leaders, including the Mayors of Amman, Bogot, Freetown, Kampala, Kuala Lumpur, Milan, Montral, San Antonio, and Zrich. We are managed as a sponsored project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors and operate with the institutional support of the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, the IKEA Foundation, the Open Society Foundations, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and the Robert Bosch Stiftung, in addition to other donors. THE POSITION Reporting to the MMC Finance Lead and serving as a member of the MMC's operations team, the Finance Associate will perform key financial planning, analysis, and reporting for the organization, supporting complex budgeting and cash flow activities in compliance with MMC or donor fiscal sponsor policies and accounting principles. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Support the Finance Lead in management and analysis of the annual budget, grant funding, commitments, and spending. Perform reconciliations of expenses and invoices with monthly income statements and projected commitments. Support the preparation of grant reporting and financial updates for the MMC's executive team, Governing Board, and funders. Build and maintain datasets for analysis. Identify process improvements through research on evolving trends and good practices. Develop guidance materials and other support tools to help financial management and planning efforts for programs and operations staff. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field. 1-2 years of experience in accounting, finance, or business setting. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and accrual accounting. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Excel functions a plus (XLOOKUP, IF Statements, Pivot Tables). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Interest in migration, urban planningpolicy, international development, or similar. Fluency in English required. Proficiency in another language such as Spanish or French is a plus. BenefitsPay Range: For New York City, the compensation is $60,000-$70,000. The range listed is one component of the total compensation package for employees.
