Sommers Schwartz is seeking a full time Chief Financial Officer (CFO)Controller to join the Firm. This is a hands-on, strategic, and tactical role, with oversight of the accounting staff, in a key leadership position in a mid-sized, well-established Firm. The CFOController role oversees all financial operations for solid fiscal health and provides strategic guidance to support the firm's long-term growth and stability working closely with Shareholders and management. This onsite role based in our Southfield, Michigan location, is the ideal opportunity for a CFOController that is has the drive to succeed, a good sense of humor, possesses the ability to manage demanding and complex situations, and enjoys terested, qualified candidates should apply to our job posting online for consideration. Position Duties and Responsibilities: Develops and executes financial strategies to enhance profitability and firm growth.Provides financial insights and recommendations to firm Shareholders and leadership.Leads financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.Establishes financial goals and performance metrics to ensure the firm achieves its objectives.Oversees day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash flow management.Ensures compliance with all financial regulations and laws applicable to the legal industry.Manages relationships with banks, auditors, tax advisors, and other external stakeholders.Prepares financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, in accordance with the cash basis of accounting used for federal income tax purposes.Conducts financial analyses to identify opportunities for cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and operational efficiency.Collaborates with practice group leaders to analyze practice profitability and client trends.Provides strategic support for Shareholder compensation models and billing structures.Implements internal controls to safeguard the firm's financial assets.Monitors and mitigates financial risks, including credit, liquidity, and operational risks.Manages audits and ensure timely and accurate tax filings.Evaluates and implements financial management systems and tools to improve efficiency.Streamlines accounting and reporting processes to enhance accuracy and timeliness.Leverages data analytics to support decision-making and reporting where possible.Administers and coordinates the Firm's benefits management and IT systems. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field Currently a CPA or successful completion of a Master's of Business Administration (MBA) preferred. Proven 5+ years' experience in financial leadership, preferably within a professional services environment.Strong knowledge of legal industry financial practices, including Shareholder and Staff compensation, client billing, and trust accounting.Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements specific to the legal industry.Proficiency in financial software, such as Juris, and legal practice management systems, including Microsoft 365.Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with Stakeholders and staff.Ability to work strategically while managing day-to-day financial operations.The Ideal candidate characteristics:Organized, Task driven, Confident.Creative and Solutions-drivenDetail oriented and collaborative.
