SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited toPlan and facilitate quality and educational instruction that fosters group workParticipate with children in activities such as sports, art, dance and homework assistanceHelp participant grow and develop as individuals and bond as a groupGuide children's development and help them relate to each other and to adultsContribute to the planning and execution of special events and other community building activitiesCollaborate with a team of professional artists, social workers and youth workers to create an original production that engages 100+ participants in arts and literacy skill developmentAttend weekly professional development meetingsII. QUALIFICATIONSEducationDegree minimum requirement: High School Diploma or Equivalency DiplomaYears of Experience: currently in College or 2 years of experience working with childrenAge: 18 years-old or older, preferredStrong Youth Development backgroundMust love children, working in groups and being part of a communityFlexibility and the ability to work well as a member of a teamInterested in managing and creating positive experiences for groups of youth, including participants with special needs and challenging behaviorsDesire to share and build personal and interpersonal skills with participantsAbility to set limits and maintain helping role of practitioner and to intervene appropriatelyIII. RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERSBuild and maintain close, daily interactions with participants, co-workers, and supervisorsHave a strong sensitivity to cultural differences present among staff and clients within our organization.Possess a strong belief in people's ability to grow and changeForge a mutually respectful partnership with persons served and their familiesIV. SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITYThe Group Leader role focuses on supervising a group of participants in the program, in collaboration with other professionals including Activity Specialists and Youth Workers.Salary Description $16.00 per hour
