Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSUMMARY: This is a supervisory as well as a manual working position directing and supervising the operations of the facilities section within the municipal Recreation Department. This position requires direct involvement with subordinates to accomplish assigned tasks. Work involves responsibility for scheduling, purchasing, and supervision of staff and part-time work force in the related areas of facilities maintenance.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Plans and supervises general maintenance of all park and athletic buildings, structures, pools, fields, spaces and facilities. Develops programming and plans for facility maintenance according to Department and staff required standards. Schedule subordinates to ensure upkeep and maintenance of all buildings, structures, pools, fields, spaces and facilities for use by the public and organized groups and as required by recreation and athletic schedules. Supervises subordinates or performs projects, involving carpentry, electrical, and plumbing to Department buildings, pools, playgrounds, fences, and courts. Cooperates and communicates with Recreation and Sports personnel in providing safe, clean and well-maintained facilities for general use and scheduled events. Works will administrative and office staff in developing a budget, maintaining records and receipt of purchases, and following purchasing and procurement procedures.SUPERVISORY DUTIES:Manages up to five (5) full time and seasonal maintenance employees. Responsibilities include interviewing, training, planning, assigning, appraising performance, and resolving problems. The number of subordinate employees may increase as the need arises. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: High School graduate/vocational school graduate or equivalent; two years experience in facility or building maintenance with emphasis on basic carpentry, electrical and plumbing skills; or equivalent combination of experience and education. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information, documents, plans, labels; ability to respond to common inquiries from the public. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide; ability to use common fractions and decimals in applications.Reasoning Ability: Ability to use and apply sound judgment and good understanding; ability to carry out detailed instructions; ability to deal with problems in a standardized unexpected or unsupervised situation; define and solve problems.Other Skills: Ability to operate a variety of power tools and carpentry equipment. Ability to balance swimming pool water and understand the operations of such facilities.Certifications, Licenses and Registration: A valid drivers license is required.
