Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJOB DESCRIPTIONUTILITY MAINTENANCE WORKERAPPROVED by CITY COUNCILPOSITION TITLE: Utility Maintenance WorkerDEPARTMENT: Public Works DepartmentACCOUNTABLE TO: Public Works DirectorSTATUS: Full-TimeEFFECTIVE DATE: April 14, 2025Pay Range: $22.24-$27.44 hourlyApplication deadline is 29 April 2025. POSITION SUMMARYUnder supervision of the Public Works Director operates and maintains the sanitary sewer and water distribution systems, street maintenance, boulevards, city parking lots, grounds, beach area, and reads water meters.JOB DUTIES OR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following:Perform public work assignments as directed.Maintain sewage collection lines, lift stations, treatment ponds in compliance with regulating agencies.Record and document maintenance performed.Record and document hour meters and other pertinent information.Assist in making sure that the streets, alleys and right-of-ways are in safe driving conditions.Operate equipment properly, efficiently and safely.Keep shop safe, clean, organized, and maintain proper tool storage.Perform certain mechanical duties such as daily service of equipment, oil changes monthly or scheduled maintenance.Work with the public and contractors.Maintain wastewater ponds.Locate city utilities as per Gopher State notifications.Mow grass, trims trees, clean up debris, rake leaves and other miscellaneous grounds work.Operates and maintains tractors, mowers, snow blowers and other park related equipment as assigned.Inspects playground equipment to ensure it is safe for public use.Attends continuing education courses pertinent to position.Performs tests, and collects samples for lab testing.Other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the formal education, experiences and training required.EducationHigh School Diploma or GEDLicensesClass D wastewater license or ability to attain oneClass C water license or ability to attain oneMN State Drivers LicenseMN State Class B CDL license or ability to attain oneExperience2 years minimum in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipmentDESIRED QUALIFICATIONSThe requirements listed below are representative of the formal education, experience and training preferred in order to exceptionally perform all of the functions of this position.EducationHigh School Diploma or GEDLicensesClass B CDL Minnesota State Drivers LicenseClass D wastewater licenseClass C water treatment licenseMN State Drivers LicenseExperience2 years minimum in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipmentStreet maintenance and/or construction and underground utilitiesOperate motorized heavy equipment, hand and power tools and the maintenance thereofCommunications with the publicOperate computer, fax, copier, etc.Experience in the operations, services and activities of a municipal water production and distribution program and a municipal wastewater collection program.REQUIRED PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND WORK CONDITIONSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
