Working closely with the Board of CountyCommissioners, the County Manager ensures the successful operation of all Countydepartments with a focus on exceptional customer service responsive to the needs of thecommunity. This role requires exceptional management, communication, and budgetaryskills combined with demonstrated experience in developing community partnerships.As the chief administrative officer of county government, an expert knowledge of methods,procedures, and policies of county government operations and modern publicadministration management is required. A dynamic, compassionate and confident managerwho motivates and mentors staff to deliver operational excellence in all service areas iscrucial to meeting evolving challenges and embracing opportunities.Sampson County operates under a Council-Manager form of government with a CountyBoard of Commissioners comprised of five members elected within five districts. There are580 full-time employees serving a population of approximately 60,000 citizens with anannual operating budget of approximately $85 million.QUALIFICATIONS: An earned master's degree in public administration, businessadministration, or similar area of study, with extensive experience in local governmentmanagement as manager, deputy manager, or assistant manager in a county or cityorganization is expected. A combination of education, training, and experience whichdemonstrates the required skills and knowledge to perform the duties of the position may beconsidered. Preference will be given for local government management experience withinNorth Carolina.The position requires becoming a full-time, permanent resident of Sampson County within120 days of the date of hire.COMPENSATION: The hiring range for this position depends upon qualifications andexperience.
