Job DescriptionJob DescriptionEssential Duties and Responsibilities:Manages and coordinates all substation construction activities for compliance with the CPM schedule and monitors and enforces compliance with contract requirements;Monitors and reports on construction productivity and schedule performance to the Substation Construction Manager, Project Manager, Director of Construction and Project Controls Manager Takes actions necessary to meet project budget and schedule requirementsDirects and approves the development and implementation of construction schedule recovery plans as requiredCoordinates the Construction Completion Walkdowns and the complete hand over of start-up packages to the Startup Manager and supervises the close out of all punch list itemsAssists Project Manager with client interface and relationsCoordinates with Material Manager to review all secured materials for acceptance Conducts weekly subcontractor meetings Reports weekly schedule and commodity installation status to the Construction Manager and the Project ManagerMonitors all extra work authorization requests, back charges, and supplier and subcontractor progress/final payment requests for acceptance and is responsible for subordinates providing the timely tracking information to Project Controls to support the change management systemAdheres to Safety, Quality, Ethical Standards, Lessons Learned, and Performance Management programs in accordance with Division Policies, Standards, Guides, and Contractual commitmentsMonitors and approve all CIR replies to the subcontractorsResponsible for completion of the construction punch list relevant to the substationHas full knowledge of the safety program and acts as the Safety Representative on site in the absence of the regular Safety SupervisorHas general knowledge of all disciplines of construction and is able to stand in for each lead disciplineResolves safety and quality issues with the safety and quality managers Further disputes are then deferred to the Project Manager or Division Safety managerUnderstands the major commercial and deliverable terms of the construction subcontracts and manages within these termsWrites the substation construction portion of the client and construction monthly reportCoordinates with the Field Engineers or home office engineers on engineering deliverablesSupervisory Responsibilities: The Substation Superintendent is responsible for the direction of all contractors performing work within the substation and/or switchyard, and any other resources assigned within the substation.Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: Advanced level of knowledge in:Safety and OSHA requirements, project permits and permit requirements, interpreting state rules and regulationsContract management, management of sub-contractors, vendors, and materialsConstruction drawing review, drawing quantity takeoff, reporting, writing skillsRelationship building, leadership, team building, mentor and facilitator, interpersonal skillsInterpretation of a project schedule, planning, interpretation of scopes of work, decision-makingAdaptability to environment, working in a fast-paced environmentIntermediate level of knowledge in:Project management, budget analysis and controls, change orders, QA/QC processes,Developing logical and resource-loaded project schedules, estimating work efforts, development of processes and proceduresContinuous improvement, such as Lean, Six Sigma, Total Quality ManagementMicrosoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio), job costing or accounting softwareBasic level of knowledge in:Scheduling software (MS Project, P6)Qualifications: Minimum 10 years experience working in a construction environment5+ years verifiable experience as a Substation SuperintendentOSHA 30Physical Requirements/Work Environment: This position is a field posting and requires 75-100% travelMust have a valid drivers license and a clean driving recordWill perform sedentary office dutiesMay occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and required to sit, stand, and walk regularlyThis job description is intended to describe the essential job functions of this position and is not intended to be an all-inclusive statement of job responsibilities.I have read, understand and am able to perform the duties within the job description.
