Job DescriptionJob DescriptionGENERAL SUMMARY AND POSITION PURPOSEThe Jena Band of Choctaw Indians (JBCI) is seeking to hire an efficient, friendly, and qualified receptionist / receptionist to join our Cultural department. This role will provide cultural support to our Tribal members, staff, and departments across the JBCI.EDUCATION / EXPERIENCEHigh School Diploma or Hi-SET (GED) required.Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.Valid driver's license. (Required)No felony, theft, stealing, or drug convictions.Knowledge of computers and technologyMust be able to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen.DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIESSPECIFIC TO JOBMust have exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Must be able to manage multiple tasks and meet task deadlines.Must have a desire to work in the areas of Culture, History, Language, and Preservation of the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians.Must have a welcoming and professional approach to the service of Tribal Members, Tribal Council, Tribal employees, and partners.Must be willing to attend training to perform duties as assigned.Must be willing to serve as an integral part of the powwow and exhibition committees and various culture department activities.Answer the main phone line of the department, relay messages to appropriate personnel, and direct clients, visitors, and associates.Coordination of interoffice and external mail delivery.Maintain office supplies and equipment of the department. Coordinate maintenance that may become necessary.Coordinate meetings and events, as requested. Assist with Cultural activities and programs, when necessary.Conduct research of the Tribe's history, lifeways, culture, ancestral homelands, and language.Maintain the Tribal Archives and memorabilia, held by the THPO/Cultural Department, and Tribal Artifact Collections, with proper training and methodology (as permitted and allowed according to Tribal Customs). Implement a schedule for the retention of archives and records.Draft reports and all related documents that promote and pertain to the Cultural Department programs. Draft educational materials for Tribal Members, Tribal and Casino employees, etc., adhering to the Tribe's developed policies and procedures.Help with Tribal Library & Museum duties when necessary.Maintain an updated record of the building's cleaning supplies and make purchases when necessary.Serve as a Member of all Committees associated with the THPO & CULTURAL DEPARTMENTS.Report on a monthly basis to the THPO & CULTURAL DIRECTORS on tasks accomplished and those in progress.Assist with other Administrative duties, assigned by the Cultural and THPO Director.Perform other duties assigned by the Cultural, THPO Director, Tribal Chief, Council, or Administrator.JBCI SPECIFICAbility to maintain confidentiality at all times.Must be able to work independently. Must be able to manage multiple tasks and meet task deadlines.Ability to occasionally travel and work irregular hours.Knowledge of Cultural sensitivity and ability to work within the customs and traditions of Native American Tribal members.Proficient grammar, spelling, math, and filing.Strong public relations skills.Basic knowledge of contract principles and procedures.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Experience in planning interactive Tribal activities.Ability to collaborate and work with other departments and directors.COMPUTER / OFFICE EQUIPMENT SKILLSTo perform this job successfully, an individual is required to be proficient or able to learn and use Microsoft Office software, spreadsheet software, Google Workspace, Internet, and other software programs and databases as needed. Requires the ability to use, operate, and/or handle equipment such as computer, copier, calculator, fax machine, transcription machine, or telephone. This is not an all-inclusive list. This position requires reasonable travel for training, consultation, representation for the Tribe and its members. TRIBAL PREFERENCE POLICYMembers of the Jena Band of Choctaw Tribe shall be given absolute preference with respect to hiring, promotions, training, contracting, and separation from employment.
