Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJob Title: EVS TechnicianJob Code: EVSTECH Department: Environmental ServicesDivision: Engineering Salary Level: Non-Exempt 2 Reports To: EVS SupervisorLast Revised: October 2021 Primary FunctionPerforms general and specialized cleaning tasks within the Cherokee Indian Hospital (CIHA) facilities to maintain clean and inviting facilities, provide a positive patient experience, and meet all required infection control standards.Job DescriptionPerforms daily routine cleaning tasks within assigned areas of the facility, cleans and services patient rooms, treatment rooms, administrative and service departments, restrooms and other inside hospital areas in a timely manner and according to established techniques and procedures.Maintains sanitary cleanliness and attractive condition of assigned area and care of equipment. Keeps department supervisor informed of activity, supply par level and equipment status.Completes verbal and written instructions work assignments. Any incomplete work, problems and issues are submitted to supervisor in a timely and effective manner to ensure proper documentation and resolution.Maintains service cart neat and orderly. Checks supplies and stocks as needed. Restock cart and supply shelf after each shift endsCollects and bags soiled linen as needed and takes soiled linen bags to proper area for pick up.Stocks linen supply to patient areas to ensure linen par levels are met and maintained. Responds in a timely matter to request for additional linensResponds to special requests for EVS services.Takes initiative to complete needed EVS services and uses time wisely to ensure that all tasks are completed in order or priority and patient needsCompletes record of work and quality assurance checklistLaunders and dries mop and buffer pads dailyPerforms assigned project work, including but not limited to: wall cleaning, stairwell and elevator cleaning, curtain removal/re-hanging, response to service calls, etcMoves and rearranges furniture as requestedFollows established guidelines and OSHA protocol in the disposal of biohazard wasteWorks as scheduled on weekends and holidaysPerforms all duties according to established safety guidelines and tribal policyPerforms other duties as assigned.Education High School Diploma or GED requiredValid Drivers License is preferred.CHEST (certified healthcare environmental service technician) certification through the Association for the Health Care Environment () is highly preferred and will be required to obtain 1 year after employment Experience 6 month previous cleaning experience preferred. Preferably within a healthcare environment. Position requires 3 to 6 months to become proficient in most phases of the job.Job KnowledgeMust have a thorough knowledge of the requirements, policies, and guidelines for EVS procedures of IHS, Cherokee Indian Hospital, and applicable OSHA protocol. Must be skilled in the use of mechanical and manual cleaning equipment such as buffer, scrubber, vacuum cleaner, mop, broom, and laundry equipment. Must be familiar with hospital layout. Requires the ability to follow both verbal and written instructions. Must be able to read, write legibly and speak clearly. Must know all related sanitation guidelines and quality assurance requirements. Must know safety procedures.Mental/Visual/PhysicalClose attention to detail is required for some procedures and normal alertness for much of the time. Job duties require extensive physical effort such as walking, reaching, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting up to 60 lbs. and often working in awkward positions. Must have visual acuity, manual dexterity, and be able to speak and hear. Responsibility for EquipmentCleans and performs simple upkeep to equipment which should not be damaged if handled properly.HazardsHas contact with potential disease or accidents such as falls, back strain, electrical shock, or minor cuts to fingers and hands. Has some contact with biohazard substances and cleaning solutions, which must be handled properly. Following established safety procedures and sanitation guidelines would reduce the risk of injury or disease. Contact with OthersInteracts with coworkers; medical professionals and the public where tact, courtesy and professional etiquette are required. Must maintain a positive image and working relationship with others. Assist co-workers as needed.
