Job DescriptionJob DescriptionWhitman Intern Grant (WIG) Eligible Triple Point InternshipAgency: AkinProgram: Triple Point Walla WallaLocation: 1612 Penny Lane, Walla WallaDuration: Summer Term (May-August)Supervisor: Cedar Green, Program Specialist for Triple Point Walla WallaProgram Description:Akins Triple Point program provides weekly support groups in Walla Walla, Washington for 2SLGTBQ+ middle and high school students (and supportive friends) ages 13-18 and is the only program of this type in the region. Youth come from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.Triple Points weekly support groups and seasonal events are facilitated by an employee and volunteer or intern. We welcome input from youth and have unstructured time for them to socialize and build community together. We have programming and topics we cover throughout the year. Group rules and norms are developed organically through these interactions and have resulted in a safe harassment-free space essential for the programs success. The primary goals of the program are to decrease isolation and increase connections, foster deeper self-understanding, and build a connection to community. Additionally, it aims to help youth develop connections with supportive community partners, foster self-acceptance, better understand their identities and history, and enhance their overall well-being.This is an unpaid internship. Whitman Internship Grant (WIG) eligible applicants are encouraged to apply for the Whitman Internship Grant to support their internship. Successful applicants will receive safety training, an orientation, in-person feedback after every group, and an evaluation at the conclusion of the internship.Role Description:Assist Triple Point staff in planning, preparing, and facilitating weekly support groups in topics including but not limited to:2SLGBTQ+ HistoryWalla Walla community resourcesHow to access higher educationSkills for job seeking/future employmentSelf-care, boundaries, community careHelp provide a reflection of a safe, caring, affirming space and community for 2SLGBTQ+ youthAssist Triple Point staff in planning, preparing, and executing special events including but not limited to:Queer PromPride Garden Pizza PartyAffirming Haircut DaysResource FairsResearch and compile new, emerging, and existing resources for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and adults in Walla Walla and surrounding counties.Internship Skills BuiltParticipatory planningGroup facilitationVerbal and non-verbal communicationKnowledge of local 2SLGBTQ+ resourcesResource documentationExperience working with a local non-profitTrainings ProvidedProgram orientation and safety trainingMandatory Reporter TrainingChild Sexual Abuse Awareness and Prevention TrainingWashington State Food Worker Card (optional)Minimum Qualifications:Must be 20 years old or older at start of internshipSuccessful completion of criminal background checkCommitment to affirmation of 2SLGBTQ+ youth and adultsCommitment to discretion and confidentiality of program youth and adultsMust possess strong human relations skills to communicate and work effectively within a culturally-diverse work environment and community
