About Mass Audubon CampsImagine a place where children can develop their interest in the outdoors, play together, and gain comfort and confidence in the natural world. Consider joining our camp staff!About This PositionBlue Hills Nature Camp is seeking individuals to foster experiential nature-based learning for campers. We aim to promote positive youth development, stewardship for the environment, and a respectful and inclusive safe space for all our campers.Duties & ResponsibilitiesAssist a lead/senior counselor with the planning and preparation of daily lessons, including age-appropriate nature lessons, games and craftsModel appropriate behavior and use appropriate behavior management techniquesLead songs and games for campersCreate and maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment for campersTeach at least 1 session each week Participate in all game activities and camp games, including opening and closing circleAssist in cleanup/organization at the end of each dayQualificationsAt Mass Audubon, our highest priority is finding the best candidate for the job. We encourage you to apply, even if you don't believe you meet every one of our described qualifications or you have a less traditional background.Required qualifications as per Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MA DPH) regulations, American Camp Association standards and Mass Audubon Policy:Must be 16 +Provide documented proof of immunity or vaccination record as mandated by MA DPH; complete camp health form and waiverParticipate in mandated, paid camp training and utilize learning including: natural history, communication, group management, health and safety, and teaching techniquesBe willing to manage a group outdoors for six hours a day in most weather conditionsPhysically access sanctuary terrain easily by footAbility to effectively interact with others, especially children, in camps youth-centered environmentAbility to adapt to changes in schedule and work assignmentDesired QualificationsHave strong interest or related education experience in Environmental Studies, Biology, Conservation, Education, or related fieldFamiliarity with regional natural history, wildlife conservation, or other applicable natural history topicsHold current First Aid and CPR certificationsPerks of Working at Mass AudubonFree First Aid/CPR training class offered to staff in JunePro- Deal discounts on outdoor clothing, equipment and moreNetwork with Mass Audubon staff (Conservation, Education, Climate Science, etc.)Training in Natural History & Classroom ManagementCompensation and BenefitsThis positions pay range is $15.00-$16.75/hour. The range for this position is based on three levels that coincide with the candidates level of experience, qualifications relative to position requirements, and/or location. This is not a benefits eligible position.Work ScheduleCamp staff training for this Assistant Day Camp Counselor position will be held from June 14-20, 2025. Camp runs from June 23-August 22, 2025. Hours for this position are Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm.All Mass Audubon Camp Staff undergo mandatory training prior to interacting with campers.
