Job DescriptionJob DescriptionWe are offering an exciting opportunity for a Controller to join our team in the education industry, specifically in a university setting. Based in Adrian, Michigan you will play a crucial role in supervising the accounting department's operations, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger maintenance, cash management, and financial reporting.Responsibilities: Oversee the daily functions of the accounting department, ensuring efficient operation and accurate financial reporting. Develop and implement strategies to minimize costs while maintaining service quality. Supervise the structure of the automated general ledger system, including training, access authorizations, and account setups. Manage the development, implementation, and maintenance of in-house computerized financial applications. Ensure the monthly closing of the general ledger, with accounts appropriately analyzed and reconciled. Oversee the preparation and review of monthly financial reports and collaborate with relevant individuals for adjustments and corrections as needed. Coordinate and manage year-end financial closing and annual audits. Monitor federal grant programs, including the calculation of fringes, indirect expenses, and GAP draws. Engage actively with detail-oriented development organizations to stay abreast of industry trends and best practices. Oversee cash management, including both bank and internal aspects. Undertake any other job duties as assigned to support the department's effectiveness. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar Controller role within the education or university sector. Proven expertise in Full Cycle Accounting, with the ability to manage all aspects from start to finish. Strong experience with Audit Compliance, ensuring all financial operations adhere to regulatory standards and best practices. Demonstrated ability to prepare and analyze Audited Financial Statements, providing clear and concise financial insight to stakeholders. Experience in preparing regular Financial Statements, with a focus on accuracy and timeliness. Exceptional supervisory management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team of finance professionals. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required, a Master's degree or CPA is preferred. Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel skills. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide recommendations. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present financial information in a user-friendly manner. High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
